Zebrina, Ninja, Tiny dancer, Pink Dragon and Melo are the favorites that I already own. Frydek is a wishlist plant of mine. I recently was buying from a private seller. But when I wanted to pick it up (she lived 1,5 hours away), she wasn’t home. And afterwards she found out that it had spider mites. Pfeew, I dodged a bullet with that one.

I love my alocasias too. They're so unusual. There's one thing that's gone astray with plant producer's naming though. The Micholitziana Green Velvet is the striking dark green variety with the whitish veination and the variegated form is the Frydek which to me is stunning. I bought a baby Green Velvet that threw out one gorgeous variegated "Frydek" leaf then reverted back. I can't wait to grow the corms on. I could get both. I love your channel. Thank you. 🙏

I have an Alocasia Silver Dragon that has been surviving for almost a year now! My only previous experience has been with Alocasia Polly and it has been eternally on the struggle bus between spider mites and underwatering. I just moved it to a brighter spot since you said non-jewel ones like a lot of light. My success with the Silver Dragon is almost making me want to try other Alocasias. A local seller had a Black Velvet and Bambino for sale last week. I was tempted to buy them, but I wasn’t sure how far away she is and the semi-annual local plant sale is coming up in a little over a month, so I might be able to find some there. That’s where I got the juvenile Silver Dragon. She also had a small Tiny Dancer, but I didn’t want to gamble that I’d be able to keep them both alive and the Silver Dragon was cheaper and a little prettier, IMO!

I have a Variegated Odora (Okinawa Silver) and I’m not a huge fan. The white parts always are warped and smaller so the leaves are lopsided and look sick. I have it in Pon, use Foliage Pro, Calmag, and Silica. It’s under grow lights so the next step is trying it in actual sunlight. But I’ve seen similar pictures online so I’m not the only one struggling with it. The alternative I’d suggest is the Variegated Macrorrhizos. They are quite similar but it grows way better and always has perfectly shaped leaves.

I have a black velvet And it has grown out in a weird manner (I wish we could post picture replies) I posted it on Reddit and everyone told me it was "Leggy" And how did I even get it to do that? 🤦🏽♀️ The plant is alive and the leaves are big and nice but the vines have stretched out very long... I admit it does look weird😮 People said that it needed more light and I'm thinking; it sits in about 10 hours of California sunlight by the window how much more light does it need?? Believe it or not the black velvet is one of the least talked about.. so there isn't a lot of help that I've been able to get for it.

When I saw that this guy had digestive problems I got very excited that finally there was something that was perhaps going to address some of my issues. Unfortunately, my problems are very different, and I don’t think any of these are going to work for me. I am 62 and suffer from Chronic Post-Radiation Enteritis, resulting from radiation treatment I got as a child. I had to retire at age 52 because of these stomach problems and once I was away from the structure of work, my ADHD got much, much worse. My diet is very restricted - no fiber, very little fruit and only vegetables that have been cooked so much that they are little more than mush. I don’t support most supplements - they either pass right through or they get stuck and wreak total havoc, landing me in the E.R. So many doctors have made valiant attempts to treat all the things going on with my body, but so the only thing that has helped is cannabis, which also was prescribed by my doctor to get me off of pain meds. I remain ever-hopeful and certainly willing to try new things

Jewel alocasia isn't a scientific term. It's like trying to fit all humans into "tall human" and "short human". What if someone is exactly average, lmao? It doesn't work that way, it's a complete BS term 😂
@tinapomfrey54123 ай бұрын
Seriously? Who cares if it isn't scientific? When you say "jewel" , those familiar with alocasia know that it is on the smaller side.
@Planty-Mandy3 ай бұрын
I kind of wonder if it separates the larger “elephant ear” types that have leaves that point up, compared to a “jewel type” that has leaves that point down. That seems like a good indicator of future size.

I bought myself a bambino pink variegated today. It was on my wishlist, so happy. Thanks for the video.
@andyx68273 ай бұрын
@@tinapomfrey5412 Obviously it's a fun term that is fun to use, but it's a little pointless to try to divide everything into these two categories. Several times during this video she wasn't sure which category to use, when the simple reality is that these categories aren't dead-set and you don't need to put everything into a box. Micholitziana and Cuprea are obviously medium-sized alocasias.
