I'm 60 years old and remember distinctly hearing this song over and over when it first came out. Even as a kid a realized the genius in its lyrics and music. I've always thought it was every bit as good as anything Lennon & McCartney ever wrote. Now I see and hear this young person singing it and the future of this world seems a bit less bleak. That someone so young would choose to know this song and get such obvious pleasure from it is a quite singular thing. So here I am, a 60 year old man and, respectfully, my hat's off to you, Sammy.

Same age! You know, it's not entirely sad, this song. Hard to put into words, but there's a kind of defiance there, a touch of "I'm down but not out!" that I've always appreciated.

Sometimes classic songs should be left alone because it’s not possible to do them justice. That’s not true in your case. You absolutely nailed it 100%. Like many commenters of my age group (59) I have loved this song (and all other GO’S songs) since it was first released and your version is soothing, sweet and moving but at the same time there’s a cheekiness in your face that is so endearing. I hope your talent gets the exposure you deserve. Thankyou

In a little while from now If I'm not feeling any less sour I promise myself to treat myself And visit a nearby tower And climbing to the top will throw myself off In an effort to make it clear to whoever What it's like when you're shattered Left standing in the lurch at a church Where people saying: "My God, that's tough" "She stood him up" "No point in us remaining" "We may as well go home" As I did on my own Alone again, naturally To think that only yesterday I was cheerful, bright and gay Looking forward to who wouldn't do The role I was about to play? But as if to knock me down Reality came around And without so much as a mere touch Cut me into little pieces Leaving me to doubt Talk about God in His mercy Who if He really does exist Why did He desert me? In my hour of need I truly am indeed Alone again, naturally It seems to me that there are more hearts Broken in the world that can't be mended Left unattended What do we do? What do we do? Alone again, naturally Looking back over the years And whatever else that appears I remember I cried when my father died Never wishing to hide the tears And at sixty-five years old My mother, God rest her soul Couldn't understand why the only man She had ever loved had been taken Leaving her to start with a heart so badly broken Despite encouragement from me No words were ever spoken And when she passed away I cried and cried all day Alone again, naturally Alone again, naturally

Sammy, I want to compliment you on your heart-touching rendition of this Gilbert O'Sullivan classic. I’m an Anglican Priest working with victims of child-trafficking in Eastern Europe. I have 22 children in my home in Transylvania, Romania, and 31 children in my home in The Republic of Moldova. Music plays an essential part in both healing and the transformative process. Because you are in the age group as ‘my’ children, your contribution does far more. As I shared your recording this past week during our ‘Rise’ classes, (as in rise above all that has happened), my staff and I were amazed by how strongly the children connected with you. They have asked that we not only sing Alone Again during the next class, but that we also use the lyrics in our English classes, so they can better understand the nuances of the song. I am honoured to do this. Music invokes emotions which are shared globally. It does not matter what language you speak, what religion you follow, or what your political affiliations are. Music acts as a set of wings to carry us wherever we choose to go, and it allows us to carry love for others with us. Sammy, please keep playing, keep singing, and most of all keep loving life with passion. Thank you for making my children smile as I shared your performance. May all your life journeys be ones of discovery! Father Bill Haymaker+ ProjectNewLife.org BigWorldSmallBoat.Blogspot.com PNLBudesti.Blogspot.com DogDogma.Blogspot.com PNLExploitedChildren.Blogspot.com PNLMoldovaPrisons.Blogspot.com ps; I am utterly perplexed as to why anyone could possibly have given a 'thumb's down' to your song. It's either jealousy, or perhaps eyes clouded by tears.

My folks are gone too....just like in the song, when my Dad passed, my Mom (they were married 51 years) was never the same....losing him kinda broke her. Sometimes I wanna ask God, why do we grow old and die? People left behind with broken hearts.....

Wow! Beautifully done. The fact that someone as young as yourself, would cover such a dark, yet masterfully written song, is impressive. Gilbert, asks the most important question in this song, "what do we do. What do we do." Unfortunately... We can't do anything. It's a decision, that once made by the individual, is final! Once again great job! Wonderfully done!

The way you sang this piece, it made me cry. Looking back over the years of pain that myself and others have went through and wondering if there was a way to fix it but never finding it. But then i realized you cant live in the past or the future. You have to live in the present because now is the only thing that matters.

@USA#1 !! There are so many songs about heavy topics and most people don't even think of anything when singing them. The art in mastering a bittersweet tune like this is taking it lightly despite the lyrics being heavy. That's what's making this song so weirdly comforting, after all.

Marvelous!!! Gilbert O'Sullivan's recording made a distinct impression on me when it was originally released in 1972, but I have to say that I love your version (let's not call it "cover) even more. It's more intimate, like chamber music, and you and your acoustic guitar allow the words, rhythm, and heart-felt storytelling to shine. This is the true poetry in the singer/songwriter tradition. And though you didn't write the song, you INHABIT IT. Thank you for this marvelous gift of soul and spirit and, yes, love.
