Oh my GOD no no no no no.... the pink you saw was from the smoke, it occurs when nitric oxide from combustion absorbs into the myoglobin in the meat... the same phenomenon responsible for a "smoke ring" in barbecue... if anything was wrong with the food at all, it was the wood he cooked it with releasing too many carcinogens into the meat - I don't think thats the case, I'm about 90% sure it was from his lack of food combined with the heart medication he was taking - you're not supposed to take it without food, which he was forced to do, that's also what Donny himself assumed to be the problem, and I assume he knows his body as well as anybody does.

@@emcoop8552 Likely the muskrat he ate had parasites in it since he started getting sick and weak only 2 hrs after eating it. The show even showed Ray catching a fish and showing it's gall bladder being filled with parasitic worms, so the producers heavily believed it was parasites in the animal that made Donny sick. I'm actually glad the show addressed it because too many wilderness shows skip the dangers of parasites in animals and makes it look too much like every catch/kill is always clean and safe to eat.

you've got about a month of foraging season, after the 2 weeks needed to get going well with the nets and trap, before bad weather forces you to just hole up for the winter. So you've got to harvest at LEAST 300,000 calories in that time, in order to have a shot at lasting 100 days. When there's no seals, whales, walrus or narwhales, your best shot at this is via making lots of net weirs for fish and waterfowl, setting baited treblehooks for predators, baited snares and baited, netting-wrapped "boxtraps" for rabbits and small birds, and baited junglewhips for big game.

you dont need the ferrorod, cookpot, sleeping bag, gillnet or paracord. That's 5 picks that can be substiuted for by things made on on site, The saw edged shovel and modified crunch can do MORE than the belt knife, axe and saw, and save yet another pick. This lets you take the gorp, the salt, the 12x12 tarp, the rope hammock, the duct tape, the e tool, the multitool, the slingbow, the fishing kit and the snarewire.
@Gogeta705 ай бұрын
Yeah, having multi-functional tools is very useful and saves space for other things, but it's also a double-edged sword. Take for example a folding shovel that also works as a saw and an axe. If it breaks, you have now lost THREE of your tools, instead of just one.

Will miss Donny. A bundle of strength and skills...just 'out of there.' Having watched several seasons of Alone, I am struck by how many 'right' guys are done in by insufficient nutrition and roughage. I think 'smart money' would pick at least one ration and stretch that to get themselves through the first week of finding 'the spot', building serious shelter (where required) and establishing what the food resources are and where they are. Counting on stored fat like Donny and one of the ladies were doing, doesn't stand the test of this survival show. Even having a little food to eat each day might make a difference. The gut will only put up with so much deprivation.

@@JohnDavis-im1oyContestants are given a green tarp to shelter the camera equipment and they double down by including it in their own shelters. There goes your fishnet material. All fish all the time worked for Zach Fowler once he used his imagination and skills to build a paddle platform for fishing farther from shore. Getting the net to the fish is another thing. Or, even finding a spot that has sufficient fish is not guaranteed. One of the contestants DOES have a gill net this season, so let's see how that goes. Judging from the 'teaser' footage, some contestants this season are going to get major meat. Maybe we will see a fish versus meat strategy to test your ideas.
