Join Graeme as he goes fishing alone on an island. He starts the day badly by almost getting stuck in stinking mud. But there is no turning back and he back packs all his gear out onto a spit of land, that in a spring tide leads him cut off from the main land (but he does have his waders!). Throw in a survival cook up, plus a talk on hook designs by Grants Tackle Up and you have about 45 mins of entertainment. Enjoy!

Hi Mr. P. Entertaining episode as always!! I must, however, offer a cautionary tale about that stove you’re using. Two weeks ago I was on a fly fishing trip with an old friend, and on the morning of day two, I was making coffee. Fired up my stove (very similar to yours, stove with a hose that connects to a gas bottle) and I’d connected it to a tall propane bottle. That made the angle of the hose a little too steep, so the hose was a little too close to the edge of the kettle. Long and short of it was that the flame burned through the hose, and we had an uncontrolled fire. Thankfully we were right there and I turned the gas off before something really bad happened, but it was definitely an eye opener. And, to add insult to injury, not a fish was caught the entire time.

Southwater stamped onto the frog of the brick means that it was fired at Southwater a huge brickworks south of Horsham, the clay pit is full of water and is now a country park. The bricks were semi engineering bricks very hard and impervious.

Those old oyster beds are great for mullet and spinning under the bridge of main road onto hayling is good for bass. Best when weather is more settled and water less coloured. A bit further East you can fish the north west shoreline of Thorney island by the harbour entrance to Emsworth Marina for chance of a sea trout. That’s if the dreaded green stuff isn’t too bad

Graham, I thick the brick is from Southwater brick works near Horsham, West Sussex. The brickworks closed in 1981 after producing 1,000 million red engineering bricks from Southwater clay. Thanks for another great video.

Hi I live in Southwater West Sussex really close to Horsham and I believe Southwater had a brickworks and where the works were we have a country park with 2 lakes one for water sports and the second (smaller lake) for fishing quite difficult to catch anything but have caught in the past

Is that the end for the brown cord trousers or is it a severe restoration job for Mrs Pullen? Maybe you have a dozen more pairs in the wardrobe... On the hooks, if you want to tie an anti-eject rig using a ring between the hair loop and the hook eye, then the curved hook is best. I like a long curve for that as well so the ring has further to travel.
@TAFishing
@TAFishing Ай бұрын
The brown cords are still alive and kicking..well,sort of...I wouldn't mind a pair of green ones just so the fish don't see me coming.

I think the iron you found is probably wrought iron, it was used in marine applications because it is more corrosion resistant than steel. Or was from before steel was common. wrought iron deteriorates into almost a wood grain type of look, I have seen that in bridge structures where I live. But I am not near your island so maybe not exactly what is going on there.

Never fails to amaze me on how gullible carp fishermen are with those hooks, rigs etc, perpetuated by all the TV programmes on carp fishing sponsored by Korda, Fox etc and their advocates. When I have fished for carp, no issue catching any on a simple wide gap hook, PVA bag of boilers on a simple running ledger or a lump of floating crust. Job done. Grant is 100% correct, find the fish with the right bait and they will take it!!
@TAFishing

a lot of it is just plain watercraft.

@DjDolHaus86
@DjDolHaus86 Ай бұрын
Yes and no. If you're fishing in a lake with thousands of hungry carp per acre and a clean clay lake bottom then as long as you've got a sharp hook and some bait then you're on the right track, if however you're fishing 100 acres of water with 10 ft deep weedbeds to ancient beds of silt and everthing else between and you're targeting a dozen fish that have 50 years of cunning under their belt then you're going to have to try a bit harder. All of these fancy rigs come from overcoming the various challenges necessary to catch these special fish from difficult conditions, they have of course become commercialised by the companies that sponsor these endeavours and sold to the masses as the next big thing. Like everything else, fishing is a business and you've got to advertise if you want to succeed
@originalshadowfax
@originalshadowfax Ай бұрын
@@DjDolHaus86 I fully get your point about the business part, however, I don't fish carp ponds or lakes, those large carp I've caught are from established mixed fisheries. If you want to fish for them in those ones you mention then yes, you need to adapt your tactics, (watercraft as Graeme says) unfortunately those types of fisheries are rare and kept quiet, too difficult for the masses too, who expect instant results with the rigs as advertised. (All the gear and no idea?) When it doesn't happen the gear gets sold. Facebook market place has loads of full carp gear up for sale, some expensive stuff too, not just your Temu or Lidl or Aldi standard
@DjDolHaus86
@DjDolHaus86 Ай бұрын
@@originalshadowfax the truth is that nothing new has been invented rig-wise since the 90s so it's all rehashing old ideas in a shiny new package. Gear prices have gone bonkers, about 10 years ago a few tackle companies tested the waters with premium gear at mental prices and they sold like hotcakes. The point was proven and the floodgates opened for companies to start offering gear that costs more than a car. Generally I'm a fan of cheap gear but I will admit that for specialist tasks, specialist equipment is needed and that comes at a price. I think fashion/image is also a large part of it, I'm quite happy with mismatched gear but for a lot of people that's just not the way. At the end of the day it's their money and their choice. I've done my time on well stocked commercials and had my fun but it doesn't appeal any more as I enjoy a challenge, you might think I'm daft for wasting my time on waters which might only do a couple of bites a year but each to their own.
