It used to be my favorite place to tour when I was little and lived in the Bay Area. I went on a trip with friends this month and took them to the hotel! It's awesome still!

Another John Portman beauty!! This hotel, the Bonaventure in LA and Renaissance Center in Detroit were all done within a few years of each other. (I love all of them!) Even though the buildings have obvious differences, that round floor tile design on the lobby levels of all three buildings are identical. I take that to mean this was part of his signature during that time period. It certainly wasn't a standard hotel marking as one is a Hyatt, one is a Westin, and the third a Marriott. I did remember that about the RenCen and Bonaventure... I'd forgotten it about this building... and another great video my friend!!

I have been in that building. If I remember the elevators were glass and were rounded on the inside or atleast rounded off at some point. Either way the voice on those is extremely clear

The answer is simple! To get to the top floor without a key is to use the stairs

Otis apparently has the security twist on it's "series" elevators in which door open won't work on a locked floor, I have encountered 2 such elevators at the Renaissance in Lyndhurst and Hilton in Newark, NJ.

I call them to complain about a Cadillac driver, he cut all the lines of traffic to get to the hotel garage or parking lot, just trying to let them see on what hand are their guests, I asked, would you guys will do anything about that driver, and him, without hesitation said, no we don’t, be careful if you get a lift from their drivers.
