I've only had mine for 4years of light use (single person) and the domestic hot flow is very slow to run hot . If it's the plate heat exchanger I guess that will be expensive to have done in that It appears you would have to take out the pump to get to it.

If you are in a hard water area the plate DHW heat exchanger will need de-scaling regularly, it will scale up just like a kettle does and this reduces flow.

It is important that Alpha, Vaillant and Veissman have a stainless steel heat exchanger - all the rest Worcester-Bosch, Baxi etc have aluminium heat exchanger - for future problems. I hve seen boilers failed because aluminium heat exchanger was eroded by the acidic condensation from the boiler and the eroded aluminium blocked up the condensate drain piping and ended up with water coming out of bottom of boiler --- with needs yearly cleaning out of boiler sump - never happens with SS heat exchanger.

Hey Chris, servicing and maintenance of boilers is always advised to prevent that from happening. The Worcester 1000 has a stainless steel heat exchanger, but you're correct the others are aluminium.

@@Heatable The boilers had been 'serviced' but the sump was never cleaned out. Average boiler service is take cover off boiler, have a cup of tea, put cover back onto boiler and polish, charge the trusting customer loadsa money ( same with most car services, they are normally just an oil change, and an oil filter change if you get lucky - but I have seen cars with 'full dealer service history' with all the filters black with dirt and a rusty oil filter casing ).
