The Ancient duo-tone clean-back alpha. For those that have been in the community a long time - join me on a trip down memory lane. For those that are newer to the community, learn a knotting technique you probably didn't even know existed!

In the 90s I deconstructed a bracelet I bought in Mexico to teach myself how to make them (pre-youtube haha). It was the X and diamond pattern with more than 2 colors. It didnt carry any string, like you mentioned so now, these many years later I'm reconnecting with my childhood "talent" and am surprised to see a different method. This video is exactly what I needed to catch up after all these years! Talk about ancient, I got ya beat lol.

I can't believe this is considered an ancient technique omg. It makes me feel so old D: I remember doing these and it being the only way I could make alphas and now I use tons of colors and the flat technique. It's so cool to see this tho! Gotta remember where we started 🤣

I just want to say that I’m not offended in the slightest, and I am so glad to finally see a video about it! 😄

@@MegMakesCrafts I should thank you! I’m now so inspired to make a two-tone alpha just to try this out. The duo-texture look is just so fascinating!

This way is so much easier than I've seen on other channels for the clean back.

What I think is funny that I just started a massive order of keychains with exactly this technique and then you post a video around it

thank you so much for making this video!!!!!! i am 26 years old and started making bracelets this september (we never had a bracelet craze at our school so i am going into this with 0 experience) i found normal patterns kind of confusing to follow and while i'm having fun making alphas, it annoys me that it takes me forever to change out the colours. but this? this is like all the parts that i love combined into one. it's like this was made specifically for me!!!! thank you for sharing your 'ancient' wisdom! if anyone has bothered to read my comment all the way please feel free to recommend your fav patterns that are suitable for this technique :>

My very 1st alpha was made that way only I had multiple color backstrings or bace strings whichever you prefer. Anyways that was 2 years ago.

would this technique use up less string compared to the more modern alpha we know today? also, could you use strings with different thicknesses in this alpha without disrupting the look?
@MegMakesCrafts

Probably about the same but I’ve never done a formal comparison. And no, the thickness comes down to the size of your knot. If your knotting string is thinner than your base strings your base strings will make bigger knots and warp your row, just as with any alpha.

I first learned alphas this way too, and I've only been doing them for about five years...

That’s interesting! My first video was seven years ago and the multi-colour technique was new then so I feel like the technique continued to float for a while but is largely gone now. I would have thought very few people would have learnt it that way even five years ago!
