@beachedwhale12 A few reasons: 1) No real connection to the card, unlike my original P9 which I held for 23 years 2) Anger/frustration/lack of faith in Hasbro after Magic 30. Some Magic 30 cards buylist for more than their Alpha counterparts… insanity. 3) Peace of mind after selling my tangible assets (mtg, 1st ed. base set Pokémon holos, gold, silver). First magic card I *ever* saw for sale at an LGS was a Revised JUMP in a 10-cent bin....No clue what it meant, but later that day I bought my first ever 4th edition starter decks. This was in Stockholm, Sweden during a family trip in August 1995 (Chronicles had literally just come out). Years later, I collected all the Alpha, Beta, Unlimited etc. versions of Jump I could find. This video, therefore, has special meaning to me! Thank you for sharing!

Man I hate how arbitrary grading is. All those edge marks and it gets a 9? I once sent in an immaculate (IMO) foil Amethyst Core (Sorcery) to PSA and it got a 7. I was floored, as it didn't have a single mark on the card.
@brendans1983Күн бұрын
I'll see that story, and raise you this; my LGS sent a pokemon card in, going for a 10. Got a 9, they cracked it open and sent it back in for grading cos they weren't happy. Came back as an 8. They spat it, cracked it open again and sent it back in again. Got a 10 this time... That experience right there was enough to shine the biggest light on the industry for me.

The further we get from 1993 the less MTG players there are that have any personal connection with vintage Magic. I personally don't see vintage going much higher without significant inflation. The nostalgia is waning as time passes, just like vintage cars and motorcycles. The kids don't care.
@jw70467Күн бұрын
I cannot comment on the investment value, but I can say that is why I don’t care about current MtG. The old sets were nice mixes of universal concepts and in universe specificity. Arabian Nights was before my time but the cards were instantly recognizable and unique. Legends was amazing, unique cards all over the place tempting you to combine colors in different ways. Then comes the crush of the new release schedule with Crappy Kingdoms, Ice Age (why?), and then set after set of unremarkable schlock. That combination of wonder and familiarity is just missing - it is so difficult to capture, but MtG doesn’t have it. Flesh and Blood has a bit of it, and that’s what I play.
@CowboyRibeyeКүн бұрын
It's not only about nostalgia. Eventually people are drawn to rarity. Right now the focus is new magic and Pokemon. Everything is cyclical. All it takes is a reason to care, whether that's nostalgia for older players or younger people getting their attention drawn to older magic for the rarity or another reason.
@V1C10USКүн бұрын
@@CowboyRibeye Hard disagree. G.I.Joe has been around for over 60 years, but the only fans that collect the 12" figures are the ones that were kids when those were the standard. Everyone else collects what they're nostalgic for (3.75" scale) or what's new (1:12 scale).

Lotus. But I still have my revised set,w/duals in a case,...I collected full sets up to after the urzas block. After that I trailed off playing and buying packs. Rudy I’m going to tell u how the new mtg market and Pokémon market is controlled. It’s time So there’s a giant community of us who manipulate the market on TCG/eBay by faking sells on items we have that we want to make go up... This only works with items that have large quantity of. That’s why new sealed product or certain cards we can manipulate the market quit easily and can make something go back 10-100% in a couple days if we do it together. Cuz once people see where making a item go back, people start panic buying it, which makes it seem as natural as possible See now u can understand that old MTG singles we can’t manipulate. It’s nearly Impossible. Remember, ALL card product that you’ve seen “gone up” last years, has ALL been manipulated by groups. We can’t manipulate old MTG singles, so the market is showing its natural outcomes. Which is, no one buying lol too expensive cards with the tiny market. And since people can’t heavily manipulate prices with having lots of that product, vintage MTG will never go up Rudy. Never Now u know the truth and cats out of the bag And told u for free. Should be giving me a ES box lol

I don't understand how people still think BGS is the gold standard for MTG. That beautiful 9.5 centering is clearly shifted to the left, and the bottom left edge has a giant mark should make the edges an 8 or 8.5 at best. I've been examining every graded alpha card up for auction on eBay and PWCC this past year (and bidding on most mint ones), and BGS is clearly the most inconsistent with their grades.
