The issue with Weiss Schwarz is, sure you can sell a box every now and then, but even just one case saturates the market, especially for some of the less known sets. I bought four cases of Batman Ninja for ~$80 per box, it's a pretty well known set, and at my shop I can get $250 for a box, but buyers are pretty rare. Sure, there's very little supply in the broader market, but it's a small customer base.

@@Just_Pele "Legendary art". No one outside of MTG cares about MTG art. For real. In Pokemon, I don't think anyone cares about the "original art" Pikachu or whatever. I am not an investor but I do collect MTG cards. Rudy is like an outpost in the cardboard wilderness, dependable and reliable, dispenses good advice and common sense for free. All you have to do is sit back and listen, absorb the lessons and learn. I remember peeps screaming when Chronicles came out, how bad it was and reprints were killing MTG, destroying the secondary market, etc. It is amazing how often history repeats if you survive long enough. Thank you Rudy for a very entertaining and instructive video, it is appreciated.

Hearing you say "Most investors don't make any money" really brings something home. I'm kinda doing this for fun. Anything I get, I buy a product where I would have fun with it if it never resells. A little bit of Mind Over Mana theorycrafting. And I'm having fun just getting some boxes and... not opening them. If they sell in the future, fine. If they don't, fine. And you know, there is a guy I saw a comment on, he liquidated his entire Modern Horizons 2 position, ALL OF IT, to buy into as much Double Masters 2022 as possible at launch. And now Drafts are 270, and collectors are even lower. Most people are not making the money, so yeah, I think making sure you take responsible actions that will not end in regret no matter how the pendulum swings for you is more important than chasing that bottom line. If the price of cardboard can ruin you, it may not be worth doing. But everyone has to have a day job, I suppose, and I'm just a minnow in the Collector's seas.

Its your own choice to believe what you want to believe about a product. The point being made is that you cant determine how popular a product will be the moment it arrives because there will be people who want it for collections or that may have not known about a product until its out of print. Plenty of people get into these different tcg things later than when they first come out so having a place and/or person you trust have some available is nice even if you have to pay more since the product is more popular later. Maybe some never moves but thats a risk you have to take in order to get the nice payday with something that you cant determine at the moment of release. If you wait to see if it gets popular, there probably wont be any left to get and then you lose out on the nice windfall you couldve had.
