Guilliman's job is to keep everything working. The Lion's job is to be better than everyone else. Alpharius's job is to know how to beat people who are better than him. If these primarchs played chess, they'd all be good at it. Guilliman would win by referencing the best statistical practices. The Lion would be able to use any strategy that presented itself. Alpharius would blackmail your landlord into sabotaging your apartment so you were stressed and sleepless, then hold your loved ones hostage unless you forfeit, then slip you psychedelics if you insisted on playing. Nothing in the rules of chess prevent this.

It's refreshing to see a solid deep dive on this by someone who is passionate about the most Alpha of Legions. I feel like too many lore channels focus too heavily on one aspect or another of the legion, skewing the pespectively heavily as if that is the whole of the picture. But the Alpha Legion is filled with loyalists, traitors, and everything in between, which is only exacerbated by the fragmentation they've suffered like many of the other traitor legions. I do hope that one day GW gets around to giving us a proper Alpha Legion civil war, probably with the return of Alpharius/Omegon to the 40k setting. But that's probably a long way off at best.

Every other Chaos Legion has begun to reunite or reform, mostly around their Primarchs or their successors like Talos 2.0 or Abaddon, it seem Criminal for the Alpha Legion to not do the same even if at the cost of a civil war.

I think we just need something to galvanize the loyalist elements into a proper counterpart to the traitorous elements. It would have the twin theme in their leadership and has some fun narrative potential of them setting aside their differences when given common cause. Effectively finding, if only for a brief time, a course of action not exclusive to either, a third path. Feels like a backwards enough way of not only reuniting the different sides of the legion under a new purpose that mirrors that of their gene-father.

Favorite character I've made for one of the Fantasy Flight 40k TTPRG's was an Alpha Legion marine. He had no name, just a code name. He remembered the Heresy but there where many gaps in his memory of the following 10.000 years and was strangely unmarked by any chaos corruption. All he did ever did was follow his orders, given to him by Alpharius Omegon himself. Follow "the plan". And he did, even though he never really know what "the plan" was. Many of his memories where locked behind certain conditions and code phrases that, if achieved or spoken, would give him access to remember more of "the plan". He wore an original corvus armor, stolen from the Raven Guard in ancient times, but remarkedly well preserved for being 10.000 year old. He was notorious among the Inquisition, who had created an entire Ordo Minoris just to deal with him, and they seemingly had by killing him, several times, only for him to mysteriously reappear again some decades later each time. The secret was that he was not just one marine but many. Every time a version of him died another Alpha Legionary would get the memories of all the precious ones available transplanted into him and become the new one. Then that version would spend some time anonymously, gathering new and old contacts, finding old and new war gear, and then suddenly just reappear out of nothing in the galactic scene. And then continue "the plan".

In the Alpharius primarch book its implied that he went traitor to undermine chaos from within and that hes still the emperors sword that the alpha legion is a ghost legion and Alpharius still being loyal just makes sense considering he was raised by Malcador and the Big E.

I am actually really glad you are such an AL fan because honestly you seem to be the only creator who give them a decent time of day without either deriding them or just making them a big meme. I really hope GW does have plans for them, in a perfect world I'd love to see an AL faction that on the table top that is independent of the CSM. Seeing how the Dark Angels are working with redeemed elements of the Fallen now, it would be cool to see an AL alternative to that.

I think the shattering was intentional on Omegon's part. The "third way" was endless war between humanity and Chaos (think in Legion about Alpharius' thought experiment that utopias are impossible to reach, but empires and built and maintained by constant conflict). Once Alpharius was out of the picture, Omegon had to balance the equation by taking himself out of the Legion's command structure. Without either Primarch to guide them, infighting increased, playing both sides continued. The goal is not to fully destroy the Imperium or Chaos, but to lock them both in a never-ending cycle of war.

I have always been in love with the idea that the Alpha Legion Stasis pods under the Imperial Palace have been left in tact. The Custodes know the codes and see prematurely killing them off as weakening Terra's hand if shit gets so bad that they need a quick boost of reinforcements, or a distraction. Like, almost EVERY Bloodgame has the invading Custodes ponder opening one or two, but leaves them there out of a mixed sense of pride and duty. EVERY resource is at their disposal, if they can get their hands on it. This though? It stays. *Queue image of a Custodes slapping the mechadendrite of a curious Martian priest.*

As an Alpha Legion fan I hate the new lore where "there are no original Alpha Legionnaires left". Instead the AL is just a larp faction for random renegades from other chapters. It sucks and I reject it. Oh and screw Solomon and all that cringe from Harrowmaster. I play my Alpha Legion as chaos marines, and the story behind them is that they serve as a diversion force in order for the loyal AL to work in the shadows.

I love the theories but I will never be convinced that Omegon or Alpharius survived. This actually helped me fell better about that, because it sounds like that the Alpha Legion just in various stages of grief. If the OG marines from the Heresy would like one of the Primarchs to come to ensure their safety then they would some point believe that their leaders are dead. The newer marines do not care because they fell no connection to their Primarch. This is something that is shown in the Hersey that when a Primarch is killed it will affect their legion on a genetic level. Sanguinious and the Black Rage as an example, a bleak one but one worth mention I think. Alpha Legion is confusing but that’s what makes the theories fun.

Akura is very keen and capable, but still leagues behind the average Ultramarine or Blood Angel protagonist. He gets both played and chumped twice in his book, which is always a good sign you are reading about a character and not a self insert.

I really hope the Alpha legion is headed towards civil war, and that Alpherius (who was Omegon, who was Alpherius) is loyal and pulling the strings behind the scenes. Space marines are honestly my least favorite faction in all of 40k, mostly because they're kinda boring- they're either loyal to the Emperor, or a traitor to him, and that's it. Sure, some of the primarchs may have had more nuanced reasons for going one way or the other, but in present 40k, a World Eater is a Plague marine is a Word Bearer is a Black Legion marine: evil, spiky, wants to kill everything, maybe has some mutations, has no motive other than worship the Chaos Gods and attack the Imperium. Alpha legion civil war would be a breath of fresh air. Space marines fighting each other over something partially removed from "Chaos good or bad?". Now it's "who do we stand behind?" and "is the Imperium worth saving at all?". As far as hoping Alpherius is loyal, this again falls to my bias. I think Chaos is way over done in 40k. You can't go 10 minutes into a story in the setting without tripping over Chaos and it taking over the plot. The Imperium may be number one for plot armor, but Chaos is a close second, and especially after the BS of Fantasy's End Times, the last thing I want is Chaos taking up more screen time that it already does. I want nothing LESS than to see Chaos taking top billing in a neat story line that has so far had little to nothing to do with it. A secondary, and less controversial reason is that I am a big fan of the "Imperium civil war" idea bumping around the community. That with the primarchs returning, Big E gaining power, and the Golden Throne failing, that E man will finally die and become a Warp God. The Imperium would then fragment, and whole new possibilities can arise for alliances, rivalries, mini empires. So in that vein, another Loyal primarch would be handy to have, his scheming could be the impotence for Emps to finally ascend, and there could be some nice story drama in Ratatouille GorillaMaid and the Lion having to work with one of their least liked brothers who also may or may not have gone traitor. I guess the TL;DR would be this. The Imperium is like GW's writing. It's bloated, stagnate, and kinda dull. So if we can't get fun plot developments with the Eldar or Tau, let's at least do something with the Imperium that isn't just more of the same "the Imperium is dying and Chaos is around every turn! How much longer can it last?!?" just to have everything fall back to the status quo by the end of the book. (Robotnik GingerbreadMan's revival is probably the best thing to happen for GW's writing since they canned the Ynnari, which is a crying shame because that plot had so much potential that just went to waste...)

Awesome But the one thing you are missing is that omegon and alpharius (the first found) switched places as soon as they met and talked on the planet alpharius (first found) collects omegon. Henceforth the one known as omegon is actually the original alpharius. Making the alpharius killed by dorm actually omegon (the second found) Meaning the real slim alpharius (first found) is the one who fights guiliman (but does as you say and sends a proxy who is killed instead) This was by design To continue to work in the shadows as the sword in the dark. The living alpharius (first found and who was known as omegon after the switch ) is the one who is and always was the “sword in the dark”

I'm actually fully on board with the whole idea of an Alpha Legion civil war where over 10,000 years, the remnants no longer know what the other cells and warbands are thinking or doing and are distrustful of each other to a fault and you can have as many motivations and goals as you do warbands. This is good from a tabletop perspective where individual players can canonically say if their Alpha Legion army/ kill team is loyalist or traitor and still be correct, but it also lends to some interesting narrative possibilities that's unique to the faction; no other Space Marine faction is non-binary in their alliance and it can really leave you guessing if ones you run into the stories are loyal or not. Celestine giving her approval for the Alpha Legion to run off with the Beacon is huge in the sense that she's basically as close to a living embodiment of the Emperor's will as you can find, and books like Harrowmaster make it pretty clear that there's a huge diversity in Alpha Legion warbands who don't see eye to eye on a lot of things even when they all fundamentally oppose the Imperium. It would be great to have some big narrative pay off where a warband we *think* is opposed to loyalist characters ends up being the key to their success in the end, or if ones like the Legionnaire in Eisenhorn's retinue was playing the long game and made off with something that shakes up the setting. I think the Alpha Legion does best when it's not front and center of narratives, but when they can be used to drive the plot forward, it can really keep you guessing.

Liked the video, but two things. One, Alpharius and Omegon traded names at the end of the Head of The Hydra. Two, the Alpha Legion also has full access to the Primarch Project gene codes and data that they stole during the book Deliverance Lost, so making even similar Demi Primarch’s like what Fulgrim did with the perfect clone of Horus would be completely doable.

The alpha legion has strong motifs around the number 3. 3 headed hydra, 3 diamonds, the third way, etc. The joke about alpharius being turned into triplets seems a bit far fetched to me, but it could be true in a different way. The alpha legion is broken into pieces with different allegiances. Loyalist, chaos, and independant. Black, white, and grey. Thesis, antithesis, synthesis. Alpharius, Omegon, Alphagon? Perhaps to unite a divided legion, the primarch will have to recover and unite the parts of himself.

Idk if you'll ever see this but I'd like to suggest an idea for a video: What would a primarch turn out like if they ended up on different xenos worlds? I think it'd be fun speculation and idk if anyone has ever covered this idea before. A joke about how a scattered primarch would turn out on a tyranid world writes itself but I guess you could talk about how them being eaten would affect the hive fleet and it might be interesting to speculate about how a primarch would develop if they ended up in a genestealer cult too. If you wanted to flesh the video out with extra content you could discuss how you think the Horus heresy would affect them and their chances of becoming a traitor - maybe the Eldar-raised primarch would end up defecting back to a craftworld? Maybe the Tau primarch wouldn't have ever left and so they'd be completely unaffected by the events of the heresy? I wonder if a Drukhari-raised primarch would have contacts within the Drukhari and be able to broker a deal between them and Angron to get the butcher's nails safely removed in exchange for them keeping the tech..? I feel like there would be a lot to explore in this idea. Love your stuff, keep up the good work!
