Alpha Male Chimpanzee Carlos Loses His Temper With Female Chimp

Tempers are running high as one of Chester Zoo's alpha male chimps Carlos
displays his dominance towards some of the female chimps.
Female chimp Alice allows lower ranking male Eric to get close to her and Carlos
respond by chasing her and slapping her back.

Carlos may think he needs Eric on-side if he chooses to comprehensively displace Dylan.

Thats a good point Peter, Carlos must be reaching his prime and must be getting the urge to be alpha. When we are watching the chimps he is so active, he must be pumped with testosterone at the moment, but Dylan is still the slightly bigger chimp. I just don't think either of them want a full blown fight. They do spend a lot of peaceful time together it is a very fine balance at the moment. Thanks as always for your thoughts on the video, your comments always get me thinking of things I hadn't considered. 👍

Why does Alice have a much bigger appendage than the other females..has it prolapsed ?...looks heavy and uncomfortable to lug around.

The swelling that female chimps get during mating season varies from chimp to chimp, Alice's has always been extremely large, it just seems to be the way she is built. The swelling reduces a lot out of season but is still noticeable. Thanks for watching. 👍

@@ApeTracker1 I'm sorry, but Alice looks more like a prolapsed uterus. I fully understand female mammals get enlarged vulvas when they ovulate. Alice looks like she has something else going on, especially since you said it doesn't retract all the way when she's not ovulating.

I've seen a lot of female chimpanzees in heat from various zoos, but I must admit, I've never seen a more swollen female in heat/estrus than Alice.

I think Annie is most likely Dylan's daughter, if she does get pregnant again, it is anyones guess from Dylan, Carlos and Eric. We have never seen Carlos getting close to Alice this year. Thanks for watching. 🥰
