Unironically I think a GTA game centered around a police officer that just uses his position to do crime off the clock would put up numbers. Maybe the other protagonist is someone he’s supposed to be hunting down on the clock but is his partner off the clock

Reminds me a bit of Sleeping Dogs which is so underrated. Although you may be an undercover cop, you also do a ton of crime within the gang you're involved with, in which you slowly start losing your identity on who you are. It's a concept that definitely works and I think you're right making the cop full blown criminal would be so unique

I’ve only heard of one instance of tattooing a partner’s name going well. My Tae Kwon Do instructor was telling me and a few other kids never to do it. She could see us eyeing the tattoo on her arm with her wife’s name and she said “I got that when I was 19. Marrying someone with the same name was pure luck. You won’t get that lucky” 😭

My family knows a guy who got a huge tattoo of his wife (at the time) in his back. Not only was it hideous, but they also got divorced shortly after and it covered his entire back and was really hard to cover up. That is obviously extreme, but that is what I always think of when people talk about tattoos for/ of partners.

the whole "burglar in a striped shirt" thing is an old holdover from theater and vaudeville; it made its way from there to silent film, then the talkies, then cartoons, etc. if i had to guess why striped shirts specifically, it might have started as an allusion to old prison uniforms. its kinda like Ninja Suits; real ninjas wouldn't wear all black leotards, they usually wore regular clothes so they could blend in. but because the full body suits were commonly used in theater, its entered our collective subconscious as the Ninja Suit, y'know?

I love thinking about this kinda stuff, it's so interesting. A much more recent example in the grand scheme of things is the nurse uniform costumes when you think of the most stereotypical nurse outfit (little hat with a cross on it, light blue or white pinafore style button up dress, white gloves). Decades upon decades ago in certain parts of the world those uniforms were a thing (40s/50s/60s North America, UK, Australia and NZ, etc.). We're so accustomed to them that we still think about them that way even though modern scrubs or even just a more modernised nursing outfit has been used for decades. Not vaudeville levels of time passing but still funny that we haven't updated all of that 😂

The way the black suits were used to signify ninjas in Japanese theatre was actually super dope because those (I heard so you know, grain of salt) were used by stage hands who would be moving around in the background, so you would be conditioned to just ignore them. So it was actually this cool medium breaking thing when one of them would jump out and attack a character.

About the Iron man movie: the reason he went as Iron man to a generic middle east conflict was because they were using stark weapons, which he had said no to selling after seeing first hand them being used. He had stopped the selling of his weapons, but it still happened behind his back, and when he was called out about it by a reporter that his weapons was still being sold to a terror group that was keeping children hostage he had the kneejerk reaction to go there himself to stop them. Not saying much of that makes sense or that it makes him much better, but just wanted to fill in, I felt you were missing some story beats 😊

What has helped me while listening to my friends is their language while they talk about something personal. If they're more focused on grasping the situation from my point of view, then they're probably looking for some answers, while on the other hand, if they're more inclined to just talk it through, I try to be more on the listening side. And most of the time, it's the latter, either it be me or them. Take care of yourself you two and Jordan, stay hydrated.

this reminds me of a fun fact I learned recently from the podcast Cool People Who Did Cool Stuff. the origin of referring to men who behave badly or are misogynist towards women as chauvinists or that followed by "pigs' didn't originate from insulting men by comparing them to the farm animal pigs. It wasn't an insult to call them animals or dirty. It was using "pigs" as reference to police, saying that men who were being called pigs were acting like cops towards women, arguably an even worse insult than being called the animal the pig.

“It will pass because no feeling is permanent” this is very similar to something I say which is “eventually everything will be okay, might not be now, or tmr or even in a month, but eventually it will be.” I think when feeling bad having a reminder that emotions are temporary and will change is very important and comforting. Good feelings can come out of nowhere just like bad ones, and the best that you can do is take care of yourself until the good ones come back.

I remember watching my brother play bioshock, cod, pokemon and super mario simultaneously growing up, explicit games and pg games have been coexisting for a long time now and it's wild to say otherwise 😭

The GTA stuff is so funny because the games, narratively, are very condemning about crime. The only difference is that GTA is more inclined to blame society and capitalism for the problem

24:31 the ADHD/Autistic rabbit holes with kids is so fun! Especially because they ask questions that most adults wouldn’t even think to ask. My favourite is when my kid or her friends will ask me questions related to one of my Special Interests. My only problem is sometimes I forget that I might scare or overwhelm them if I don’t word things right or don’t explain enough. Like when an 8 year old asks if our star will ever die, and you explain that it will and how, but forget to mention until you see the look on their face that it’s physically impossible for it to happen in our lifetimes, so they aren’t going to be swallowed up by an expanding star out of the blue 😂 And yes, Hank is a HUGE help haha. My kid loves him.

Fun fact, a family friend was installed as the president of the International Shrine Clown Association in 2020. I legit have clowns as family friends. He is also the father of the dance teacher I had as a kid...who also was a clown. My janitor in elementary school was also a clown but he wasn't a Shrine clown because there is a difference lmao. All this information is just to be like THERE ARE SO MANY CLOWNS and somehow I just casually know so many of them and I get being confused as to why clowns just are a huge thing again lol.

It's so ridiculous when people complain about bad messages to children when the game is aimed at adults. Like it's not the game developers' fault if parents buy their kids games that aren't suitable for them.

but it's too hard to teach children that fictional media isn't real ): it's a much better idea to shelter them and hope they figure it out when they're old enough

1:09:20 a big reason in the MCU that Wanda and Pietro hate tony is that his bombs were used to destroy their home country, and they sat for days as children next to the bodies of their parents and an active (unexploded) bomb that said "STARK INDUSTRIES" on it under the rubble of their kitchen. Tony's shit killed a LOT more innocents than in just the first iron man movie.

"I feel like they're just doing it because it's 2023 bro we don't need to play as a woman" there are so fucking many GTA games out there if you want to play as a man they've told rags-to-riches stories for all sorts of male criminals how are you not bored of that and excited to see a new type of story?

you should have a spin the wheel and have to add the random element it lands on, like “bass drop” or “high pitched speed up” - you spin it in the middle of the song and you can’t change the start after you add it

I love how conservative routinely complain about shit cus “kids shouldn’t be seeing this” and 9/10 it’s like yeah, we know, we don’t want kids seeing it. Do your job and parent and don’t try and give your kids rated M games or bring them to barshows
