This is a narrative-driven Sci-Fi horror adventure that makes clever use of your controller. Some of the solutions to puzzles are very inventive. It's playable with a control pad, but the button layout of the console is especially suited to a fight stick (and it's pretty fitting for one section in particular!) Spoilers: For the fighting section, Dragon Ball beats Dragon Punch, Dragon Punch beats Flying Kick, etc. But you also need to select the right elemental buttons to pull off the attacks (it took me a while to figure out you need to press both red elemental buttons to do the dragon punch).

Truly magnificent, this is the most inspiring game ive seen in a while. Ive had a lot of game ideas over the years, and recently ive been brainstorming and drawing/training to make one that is similar in terms of being horror and underwater (but very different in its own way, thought of it before this too). But now i swear to commit to actually making it real, and as unique from this while still having themes involing the mysteries behind dreams and the deep sea. Stay deep diving peers, and never stop dreaming.

Noire: "Chance, I know you tried (and succeeded) to kill us, but please come with us! There's already a monster down there, I don't want to become another!" Still Noire on the very next scene: "Screw you all. I hate all of you with every single fiber of my beings. I will let all of you die. Even those who actually helped me and had my best interests at heart, you all need to die too because I just don't care about anyone else." Top writing right there. Could have rivalled J.K.Rowling.

What a weird way to talk about depression. I strugled with il for 15 years. It's been at least 5 years I won against it and it was certainly not as stupid this game portraited. Oh well, everyone has it's own story. If the developper felt like it, at least he did it his own way....

So, you work together with the five alienated parts of Blanc's soul - the things she wants to be - in order to give her the hope she needs to resurface from her depression. The dev definitely understands the disease, but the "power of friendship" ending kinda falls flat. Depression like Blanc has isn't an enemy you can defeat, any more than changing your relationship to food can change type 1 diabetes. It's just something you survive, for various definitions of the term. You cannot escape it any more than you can escape death itself. If you're someone like Blanc, or me, depression will eventually overwhelm you. All you can do is to make yourself as difficult to run down as possible.
@cd_ee

In many ways your interpretation is correct. Spot on! But there's one thing I'd like you to recall. The leviathan is not defeated. It is survived. It is endured until it is drained of its power

Spoiler! Monitor and input are arcade game emulator; which the fighter: White and Red (Ryu and Ken) fight each other that story telling is Ryu has to fight brainwashed Ken to get his sense back. And the true ending tells Ryu and Ken fight the Dictator, Bison (Vega) that exactly like SFII Animated Movie (1994).

(Spoiler) I get the motivational route the developer was trying to do, but it honestly feels generic. I like how the characters are written, but the way they end up talking to the player in the end is something I didn't like. I'm not a fan of the fourth wall break route the story took either. You could say it's doomist, but I think you can't save everyone, and the story had a chance to show that by using the true ending as a way for Noire to have a final talk with her sister, or maybe by showing her the consequences of disregarding the life of everyone else for her own desires, by making so we can't escape on the true ending. Maybe we could go back to the present after she dooms them all, with everyone being ok, and let her be happy with that last goodbye, but at the same time understand that there was a reason the others didn't tell her her sister was still alive.
@cd_ee
@cd_ee 11 ай бұрын
Hi, developer here! Thanks for the well thought-out feedback! I was going through a rough time when writing the game, so I wanted to give everyone in it a happy ending. Even if it isn't very realistic. But I agree, realistically you can't save everyone. In the future, I hope to make games with more emotionally complex endings. Your feedback in invaluable for that, and I'll take it to heart when writing the next game. Thank you!
@saquial
@saquial 11 ай бұрын
@@cd_ee Honestly, I do get your point, I’m a bit tired of the classic indie game where everyone dies when they think they finally made it. I don’t think the story having a good ending by itself is detrimental. I’d say the bigger issue is how the characters were written to be believable people, but in the real ending they lose their individuality and become a canvas for the story to say what it wants to say, to the point that by the last lines it just feels as if the game, and not the characters, is talking. This personally worsens the “thank you” section a lot because it feels as if the game is patting you in the head for completing it, and telling you “ok, now you’re supposed to feel good”. It makes the ending feel forced. I think having a happy ending for everyone is also great, it’s just that I think it’s important to keep using the building blocks defined by the story beforehand. And I’m only being harsh because I really liked the characters and the story, it just bugs me how the true ending tramples with that.

this was really cool. not your typical horror game, to be fair, and if i'm being honest, in the final round of the game, i thought maybe that was edited in music, but you don't really do that. its... funny, in its own way. this horror game about depression just has this, utterly uplifting and hopeful music track, as you hadouken an amongus in streetfighter being played by a giant eyeball shadow squid staring at your from outside the window. what a strange sentence. in its own way, it was very beautiful, but i did take offense narratively that chance has such an about face. to be fair, it's not that simple to state the motivations of the characters. chance was trying to do good, in that he wanted to help blanc, and he even kept her alive, but the method about which he interacted with the others was poor, and his entire personality seemed self absorbed and self assured to the point of arrogance. and while the knowledge that the one person in the team who has every right to hate him for his part in this project, not actually hating him as much as he expected, and in fact being the only one to tell her the truth, its not enough to make a quote unquote, villain, change face that quickly. i suppose that might just be my petty and paranoid sides being distrustful, but i personally would have enjoyed an ending where he seemed more remorseful, rather than like the power rangers and the monster teamed up against an even stronger outside force kind of situation, and they get to act all buddy buddy. just felt wierd.
