Harris, i found something cool you may want to tell your audience about. I paired a $10 usb-c to hdmi adapter with the $15 capture card, downloaded the "Open Camera" app which lets you hide all on-screen controls (e.g.: "clean hdmi out"), so i was able to mirror my phone screen (with camera app open and pointing at me) to my computer which recognized it as a webcam. There's no latency and the image quality is incredible.

the whole brightness thing was explained completely wrong. When you lower it on the avermedia webcam, the actual iso is being decreased. When doing the same thing on the streamcam, it affects the image after the settings have been baked into the image. It's the same thing as recording footage on a camera and then trying to fix in in post VS avermedia webcam equivalent would be changing iso on the camera before starting recording, nothing is baked in, that's why you have so much flexibility, not because of the dynamic range.
@NanoNutrino3 жыл бұрын

Yes I think I'll go with this camera after watching all your comparison vids... You almost had me convinced to get a GoPro... I've watched at least a dozen videos on different sites for the Logitech cams... DSLRs... You are the only one to mention this AVermedia. And you are right that it is fricking incredible looking. AND... it is now on Amazon new for just $179!! Less than a Brio!! No contest. I'm getting this for my webcam. I play/stream (and record) live music mainly on my guitar and have been unhappy with latency and my strumming hand looking like it's in the Matrix movie... I knew I wanted a cam that would go up to 4K, or at least 60fps in 1080p... And your handful of vids mentioning and comparing this AVermedia camera helped make my decision. Now... on Amazon, there are some tough reviews of this AVermedia cam. As there always are about every cam. But I try to read carefully. The one stars mention how AVermedia gets "grainy" in low light or anything but "professional" lighting. But with your knowledge of cameras and exposure, I am sure you would be able to find corrections for this? Just wondering. Love your vids, even though I'm not a gamer, but a musician. Very helpful regardless on using OBS, and I'm definitely looking into your StreamBeats, as I've had portions of my FaceBook streams covered or blocked out because I was playing certain songs for background music before going live... Anyway... thanks for all the knowledgable info!!

My only gripe with my current camera is that I am unable to modify the settings of the camera (when you go into preferences in OBS and hit Configure Camera) as they are greyed out, however I've been able to adjust the settings within OBS filters anyway so it's not a massive issue. If gain is an option, turn that as far or all the way down before adjusting brightness if your image is overexposed. Gain is basically amplifying the signal from the sensor, and introduces noise to the image, so it's better to turn it down first.

I'm a crazy amateur photographer with too much gear. I've slowed down a little since the pandemic, but once shot 12,000 photos over 2 days at an airshow. So I do see a difference. i don't agree that it's as large as you say, and it'll be even less of a concern when you've got your gameplay footage going and you're a postage stamp against one edge of the screen. The gear matters, but not THAT much. Also depth of field doesn't matter as much as photogs and videographers obsess about it. There are other ways to separate subject from background and if your background is that distracting you're doing it wrong. I'd take any of those cameras and not give it a second thought. I would NOT take a dodgy 720p inbuilt laptop webcam.

I love your videos but this one... this has so many errors when comparing the webcams: 1) You should compare BRIO and PW513. The Streamcam should not even be here, as its price to value ratio is horrible and comparing 1080p to 2160p is useless. 2) The reason why lowering brightness on the PW513 worked well is because in the first version of the driver the "Brightness" was a unified value for exposure and gain. On Logitech webcams, "Gain" is a separate value and that's what you should set as needed, not "Brightness". "Gain" was enabled on PW513 as a separate settings in later updates. On the other hand, the issue with "Gain" is that it can't be saved via G HUB software, you have to set it back at every reboot in the advanced video settings menu (from OBS). 3) PW513 has much worse color accuracy compared to BRIO. None of them is perfect, but PW513 adds a pink shift that you can't fix with its settings. Playing with "Hue" settings doesn't help: you fix a color and mess another one. 4) The dynamic range between light and dark spots is noticeably better on the BRIO. 5) Footage on PW513 is more accurate IF AND ONLY IF the content is further away. On close distances (which is the typical webcam usage) BRIO is more detailed. The reason behind it is that... 6) PW513 does NOT have focus settings. No auto focus and no manual focus! Autofocus on webcam is pretty bad it's useful if you do frequent close-ups. But why no manual focus?! This choice is incomprehensible. 7) BRIO features Windows Hello, which everyone forgets to mention. It enables login in your Windows PC just by sitting in front of it and recognizing your face. Useless for streaming but a nice feature to have. Source: Me, I have both a BRIO and a PW513. Now, the fun part: When PW513 actually launched... it didn't go that well. Many users were disappointed by its performance. So much that many started blaming on reviewers for doing sponsored (fake) reviews. I wasted a whole afternoon looking for all comparisons on KZbin and I noticed that most of the reviews did poorly on comparing BRIO and PW513, which is the only comparison that makes sense. The PW513 price got cut from 250 to 200 and you can find it on Amazon for just 180 today (at least in Italy). You don't cut your product price so fast if it is the best on the market, do you? Conclusion: Is PW513 a bad webcam? No, absolutely not. Is it the best webcam on the market? Nope, BRIO is still the king of webcams and can be found for 160-180 euro, same price or lower than PW513.

At this point I don’t know if Harris is biased and doesn’t know it or it’s all done on purpose. I get the initial comparison of 3 options, but if the difference is so huge between the 1080p and 4k camera, why does he keep comparing those two cams instead of concentrating on the two 4k ones? The Logitech one has the same specs and is still 1/5th cheaper - that’s a valid comparison. He may as well take that cam and USB webcam from 2000 and 90% of that video wouldn’t change. Ok, logitech 4k doesn’t rotate as much, cool - I can get a good tripod for less than the $50 difference, why else this cam is better than the logitech one?
@specter_wprs3 жыл бұрын
I agree! I noticed this as well. He shows how it looked like shit but then he was able to fix the issues with it. Why not do the same with the 4k on right next to it if you did not like the look it gave. That slight orange tint he said. That is easily fixed. It also can have a long cable for it so it can be centered on your monitor. Also a mount also like you said would work....I like competition and it is great to have this cam in the market but it seemed very much 1 sided to me as well.

@5ANDW1CHES3 жыл бұрын
@@JKLProductions1914 that is the key disadvantage. You lose autofocus. In my case, I set my focus as I am always within the zone. For others, this could be less than ideal. Yes, you can set the focus to infinity if you care not about a bokeh and move around a lot and don't want to be out of focus, or fiddling with your lens. At that point though, just go with avermedia, as it would be cheaper and its sensor is also very good. I'm just disputing the claims that it's not possible.

Also, re: brio. Most of its color deficiencies is actually software, not hardware; logitech software sucks!. You'll notice that he didn't tweak the brightness on the brio, only on the streamer cam, this is likely because the brio quality looked almost identical to avermedias once these settings were applied. I generally use LUTs and turn off automatic brightness/exposure via software, and my images look great. NOTE: I use my camera in professional settings and for presentations. Not a KZbinr or Twitch(or similar) Streamer. My rig is ideal for me because it's solid metal and very small, so it travels very well.

So I want to buy this cam, but $250 is above my limit right now with having to buy a new pair of astro a40s. I was think of getting the Logitech c920, but is there any other suggestions? (An actual camera is just way to far out of my range. (And my laptop cam is just shite))

I'm thinking about improving the quality in Zoom and Meet, and buying a camera or a webcam would be a first step in content creation too. In that case, what woulld you do? 1) Start with this webcam or similar (the difference in quality between these products is huge, though) and maybe something like Elgato Key Light. 2) Go straight to a Mirrorless camera or DSLR. An example: Canon M200, CamLink 4k and Elgato Key Light or something cheaper. I know that the second option is quite expensive compared to the first one, specially if we include the light equipment. On the other hand, a camera like the M200 is more versatile and offers options like vlogging, product show case and so on. What do you guys think? Thank you, Harris, for the review. I've been learning a lot with your videos.

Hey Harris, have you checked the Akaso Brave 4? It's an action cam with built in webcam over USB function. Not as good as the newer gopros, but its $80... I think it does 1080p 30 over USB but records 4k 24 or 1080p 60

honestly I would just start with an 100$ webcam (C920) and the save up for a mirrorless camera like the Sony A5100

A5100 has overheating problems
@CyanicG3 жыл бұрын
@@sobad1542 it’s still the number one recommended camera for streaming and recording even by Harris himself. The over heating really isn’t that bad. It’s maybe not great for like 7 hour streams but for shorter streams and KZbin videos it’s great

@@sobad1542 only if you’re recording onto the memory card. When using it for live streaming it’s no problem - I use one for my streams.

I actually really like the look of the $180 Logitech camera. I’m not a fan of super wide lenses (I use a 28mm lens on my Sony a7iii).

I wish you switched between the Brio and the new camera as much as you did with the StreamCam. This seems like more of a competitor with the Brio as it has 4K and the wider field of view, plus the closer pricing. I do agree the Brio’s color accuracy is lacking though. I’d like to see your comparison between this webcam and the C920. High budget & great review vs entry level priced & most common.

Color and FOV looks nice, but the sharpness isn't quite there for 250 usd. Considering it's also quite bulky for a webcam, i'd go for a Sony a6000 probably. But it's good this company stepped up the game a bit.

So I want to add a second cam to my stream. Currently have a Logitech C922x and was gonna get a second one. Also looking to replace my current mic, which is the turtle beach stream mic (I know it is not great but I get decent sound out of it thanks to some of the recent sound videos here, so thanks for that), but i want to get the elgato wave 3. Torn on whether I should should get a better cam and replace my mic later, or focus on upgrading my mic and then just get a second C922x when I can. Thoughts? Suggestions?

I notice you talk about the red range tones between the 2 logitechs, but the biggest issue is the green cast on the skin the Brio seems to give you. Makes skin look sickly. One would hope there is a tint adjust for this issue.

I'm shocked gopro hasn't just taken the case off and called it a webcam. They'd dominate the webcam market

Looks great, but I picked up an A5100 for 350. If your budget won't stretch further than 250 it's a decent option, but you're not a million miles away from a mirrorless at that price.

After watching a couple of reviews, including this one I bought the PW513. After upgrading my PC, lighting and using similar settings talked about here, the outcome was still the same...horrible! The noise is so bad. I just returned the cam and picked up the Brio 4K Pro and it's night and day! Save yourself the hassle and gran the Logitech for the same price or a little cheaper if it's on sale.

The entire video I thought " this cameras are all bad, what are you talking about?" Then I released KZbin bad randomly decided to show me this video in 480p

So this new webcam is actually nuts. A couple things I'm really curious about are if those brightness, contrast, and saturation settings are now being treated as "pre-processed image" adjustments, or if the AverMedia actually just has an insane amount of stops of dynamic range. The other thing I noticed on the negative side that the Brio actually outperformed the AverMedia in seemed to be color fringing. I noticed it mostly in the hair where their seemed to be a dark halo around edges. This is usually either due to bad chroma subsampling or over-sharpening, but I don't see sharpening as the culprit here. Speaking of sharpening, one of the things I most liked about the AverMedia that's a game changer for me is the fact that the image doesn't have the classic webcam over-sharpening look that just about all other webcams have to compensate for low quality image processing (since of course it's all being powered by the CPU), and you can really see it in the side-by-side-by-side in the most detailed areas where compression is just killing the image quality on the Logitechs, but the AverMedia looks much more natural and crisp, which is really refreshing to see. All in all, it's cool.

Ehh, not sure. If you didn't want to put in the time to learn how to use a more traditional interchangeable mount camera, then yes?? Otherwise, I think if you are willing to spend $250 on a Webcam then you have a decent budget for streaming and there are multiple options under $300-400. Sony A series, Z Cam E1, GH3/4, etc...

I checked out the cam on Amazon and it has a fair amount of bad reviews from grainy to poor customer support. I know some are trolls but they can't all be. Not sure now if I should get one. But you did a great presentation.
