I love the 25 list. I look forward to it pretty much everyday. I've learned many interesting things also. Today's list was one of the most interesting in my opinion. Most of the facts I already knew but I had no idea Iran had ski resorts or that the Aleutian islands made Alaska the eastern and western state. While I knew china & Taiwan were not the same country I didn't know why. Or that Norway's coastline could stretch around the world more than twice. I'm 66 years old and i love that there are still things to learn. Hey Mike we gained a continent recently check it out.

As I remember from my visit of Giza back in '86, the pyramids are in the suburb of Giza. Do you mind me passing along something I learned while visiting Mexico some time back? The 'tl' at the end of the Mexican pyramid's name is pronounced as a lisp, in case you want to see the heads of Mexicans turn. Death Valley and Mt. Whitney are only 85 mi./138km. apart. The Hague is pronounced 'HAYG', rather than 'HOW-guh' Greenland is about the size of MT and Germany. AK is also, obviously, the northernmost state, and it has a border on 2 oceans--Pacific and Arctic.

A regular/normal map would be a globe , any projection distorts the mercator projection is most commonly used because its very useful to sailors but for land not neccesarily the best, its just that for most land uses it matters little and it were sailors mapping most of it initially Its kind of basic logics in drawing more than a geography fact, the size of greenland is on mercator projection is perfectly in line with the increasing scale along the y axis, which itself is like that to keep angles consistent

Antarctica is not the driest continent on earth, it has more fresh water lakes than the majority of other continents. Australia is officially the driest continent on earth and south Australia is the driest state. There is more fresh liquid water in Antarctica than in Australia and if you include the ice and snow, Antarctica has more water than Africa, North America and Australia combined. Antarctica does have the lowest rainfall of any continent but that is just because the vast majority of it rainfall turns into snow.
