It was really, really good. Kinda wished there was a change of beat for the chorus, the constant "DUN dun dun DUN dun dun" was a nice build up start, but didn't really go anywhere without a change. Other than that, the sound was tight, everything was on que and it was a very good cover.

I think it was a musical mistake: to drop the perfect fifth harmonies in the original bassline and replacing the original rhythm in the bass with straight 8th notes took away from the entire Japan allusion that the original so well achieved. Vocals were nice. You need better musical arrangement and perhaps a guitar player who can conquer a rhythm.

Covers always interested me-starting first w good choice of song (inside and outside the box), & the approach (sounding familiar to the original, or reimagining it-subtle changes to arrangement/melody makes it interesting in its own right, or revamping the entire piece). It is a skilled art-form in of itself. Nirvana D-7 actually sounds just the way the Wipers did it; Clapton’s After Midnight takes JJ’s version from laid back Americana Folk to a driven Brit Pop Country style; Greta Van Fleet made a ballsy choice & put a unique rock spin on Adele’s Rolling In The Deep; Johnny Cash totally owned NiN / Trent Reznor’s Hurt; Reel Big Fish forced Take On Me into a Ska tune & butchered it; Guns & Roses thought they were too cool for school in their attempt to cover McCartney’s Live and Let Die; Typo Negative [arguably] got it right & hit a home run with Neil Young’s Cinnamon Girl-not losing sight of its beautiful grittiness when taking it up a notch from a driven Marshall to a fully distorted down-tuned Rectifier. Hell, I’ve even heard a total country cover of In Bloom that was just a good song based on strong sense of direction and convincing commitment / strong execution in performance. I guess I went on a rant, but I don’t care. Covers are a performance art form, you already know the song is good, what new is gleaned is an honest expression of the taste & musicianship of performing artist. Sometimes it tastes great, sometimes like shit!
