I attended this game in-person (you can see me multiple times behind the Belgian net in the first half), and Belgium doesn’t want to tire and injure its key players so early if it can win with the bare minimum, otherwise we get situations like Neymar getting injured yesterday in the 2-0 game against Serbia, unable to play the next match. Lukaku, Belgium’s main striker, is also sitting out until Croatia, with Batshuayi replacing him. Despite that, Batshuayi scored and had another close attempt anyways. It’s rather clear, with Belgium being top of their group, that they will be the first to advance to 16th of finals, with any of the other three teams following behind.

Thx for your comment . As a Belgian I was frustrated by our inability to control midfield , which was , in particular the first half , continuously and dominantly reigned by Canada . If Belgium draws or looses , there is nothing we could argue, except your own conclusion . We have a bit more experience , and a clear chance , we won’t miss . Canada best players at World Cup 1. Alphonso Davies- despite the miss he has been everywhere and deserved to get their first wc goal 2. Alistair Johnston- maybe not the best defender but has been real consistent this tournament 3. Kamal Miller- disaster game against Croatia but ruthless the rest of the time, especially this one 4. Tajon Buchanan- skillful winger has been really dedicated to creating chances 5. Junior Hoilett- arguably not better than Eustaquio but has made a real commitment to the attack
