Jimmy looks more like a Belgian Malinois than an Alsatian. The chopper pilots skills are very impressive hovering on the spot with 70kph winds.

Climbing in shorts, getting stuck without food and water ... no words for this kind of stupidity.

Me: So, you're a doctor? What kind of doctor? The Doctor: The kind that climbs mountains to see what condition my patients are in. Me: I'm trying to imagine what could possibly have the ability to carry the weight of your balls. The Doctor: The chopper pilot and the rescue team carry them just fine. I often wonder who carries their balls.

These people who push themselves to their limits and to the limit of what's safe to rescue others--wow! This raises my low opinion of humanity.

Wish they would also put the protective ear muffs that block the rotor sounds on the trained rescue dog when the dog rides on the helicopter w them. All the rescuers have the ear muffs on to protect their ear drums from damage by the helicopter’s sounds. But dogs’ ears are more sensitive and acute than the humans, so the helicopter’s high pitch, piercing rotor sounds must be extremely painful on the dog. The rescue dog needs all its senses to be in tune and working perfectly in order to help the crew successfully find victims. So why did they neglect to put the protective ear muff on the poor dog to block out the loud, harsh rotor sound so it’s ear drum doesn’t get damaged? They should care for the dog. The dog can be better at its job if it is properly looked after and cared for and has all its senses functioning at 100%. If they continue on like this, they are impairing the dog’s hearing which is a vital sense that the dog needs in order to perform the rescues and find the victims for them.

So many people trying to earn themselves Darwin awards. There's 'group of people climb mountain known for extreme weather and dangerous conditions, with no rations or source of liquid water'. There's hiking on a glacier in shorts and a tee shirt. There's literally every inexperienced beginner who tries climbing this thing. And of course the half-successful 'abandon your packs and run to the top'

Does the air get pumped out of the splint like she says or does it get pumped full making it tight?
@panini4200
@panini4200 3 жыл бұрын
It gets pumped out. It starts as a "soft" pliable brace and when the air is removed from the foam inside the material it shrinks down conforming to the limb and becomes rigid providing the support needed for transport

At around 20:00 there are climbers "stranded" in a refuge with no food. That they should be climbing without food reserves is ludicrous. In any case the refuges have emergency food and small stoves to melt snow for water. I have been in many of them. The climbers were in no danger. This is over dramaticization by the film makers.

Its the Vallot emergency bivoac shelter, its basically a metal gardem shed. There are no stoves or food in emergency bivvy shelters. You are right though about these idiots going up without at least a small stove and pot to melt snow plus some dehydrated rations.
@Shadowofthesoldier

high altitude refuges can be anything from shelters to housing, but the french definition for that word is "a refuge provides cover, and *eventually* food". on Mer de Glace, you just have a small crappy shelter stranded on a concrete block. That's why the commentator said that often on that refuge, people are in distress. Because this is a shithole you don't want to end up stranded in. Only people in need goes there
