I spent almost 8 years working on ski lifts and different summer rides similar to this one (kart, bikes, etc...) I don't think this is more dangerous than any other mountain rides or sport, we didn't have that many accident and when we had them it was usually not that bad, just scratches and burns. We've had way more serious injuries or even deaths with 'regular' activities such as ski or mountain bike.

It happened to me. I broke the track record but I left a good part of my right thigh up there in the process. It was nearly the entire site of my right thigh. After the adrenaline rush it hurt, omg did it hurt whenever I tried to fully extend my leg. So I didn't. So my RN mom told me if you don't fully straighten out that leg it's going to get worst. I tried but it just hurt too much cause of the new skin. Over a week and my leg was actually retracting. So one day in the pool I held myself under water and straightened out that leg completely. Most people never felt this kind of physical pain due it being about 60% healed. All that new skin being ripped open. And keeping the leg completely straight for the next few weeks was hell. I learned a very good lesson that day which was to never wear shorts on those slides.

I seem to remember THINKING that being concrete also..BUT I believe expansion and contraction every summer and winter would break it up pretty fast so probably just look like concrete it was made out of some kind of acrylic or fiberglass whatever.. seems like when I googled other tracks it was a company that provided like 90% of them in the USA..

That drop caught me off guard and I went flying, separating from my sled landing at the bottom. My sprained ankle looked like a grapefruit. No pads and never thought about legal issues. Good times. The starter told us absolutely no racing but we could go side to side as fast as we wanted.
@KingConradVI3 жыл бұрын
I feel that if the slide was bigger and had higher walls, and the slide vehicle was bigger too, there would be a lot less crashes as it would be impossible to be launched out of the slide. Also people could go faster as they are in a more tight slide. That being said, another thing to come with that is the rule of one person sliding at a time, or else any possible crashes could be deadly
@joestr3 жыл бұрын
They send people down the slide like every 15 seconds. If you want to go fast, you have to ask the attendant for more time or you catch up to the person infront of you almost immediately.
@Adam-vj7dn2 жыл бұрын
Cost is one factor, higher wall means more material more labor more maintenance. The other is if you build the walls higher it just means a greater maximum speed can be achieved before being thrown over. The accidents might be more rare, but they would also be more serious when they do happen. Having a short height wall prevents anyone from gaining to much speed and minimizes the extent of injuries while maximizing profits.

We had one of these at Mount Hood in Oregon. In the early 90's my cousin and myself went to ride the alpine slide. We were both dirt bike riders. So, we raced each other all the time. We bought a 10 pack of ticket to ride the slide. After the 2nd ride I noticed if you moved up as far as you could to the brake you would go faster. On the 4th run I told my cousin to move up as far as you can on the sled. He went first. I was hauling ass. I was almost flying off the corners. Then out of nowhere is my cousin standing in the track. He crashed and was trying to get his sled back on the track. I slammed into him at a real high speed. Sent him flying. I told him to get on his sled fast before we get hit by the next rider. He had so much road rash. He was tore up. We never did go back.

No its safe. There is a big brake handle you can pull inbetween your legs at any time. Many kids and older people ride it.

About 20 years ago I crashed on this same ride. I'd taken a bunch of runs already with my kids and my daughter and I were going for our last run. She was young and getting tired so I carried her sled for her and when we got back to the start I made the mistake of giving her my sled, not knowing the brakes on hers weren't nearly as good as mine. I was blasting down the hill and hit the brake at the same spot coming into a slow zone, only to find out I didn't have a chance of slowing like I needed to. I got pitched onto my left side, still hanging onto the sled, and let me tell you, polished concrete can give you some serious road rash! I still have the burn scars and lack of pigment on my leg. Shorts are a bad idea on this beast if you want to go fast!

Bro last time I rode this my coaster was ass I didn’t know it until half way in the slide that the hands that make you go faster and brake didn’t work.... so I had no brakes

Oh my god this brings back memories... I went on this thing like, 10 years ago as a kid and the (older) kid in front of me wouldn't stop telling me the story about how he skinned his elbow going down this thing. Good times, glad to see someone captured this before all the corporate kerfuffle took place :)

my buddies and I went down this in our late teens back in the late 80s, all of us were 6'3'' or taller over 200lbs , talk about speed! they wouldnt let us on it anymore cause we were racing to catchup and crash into each other. we all had burns all over for months after this, could barely wear pants to work or even move without tearing all the scabs

we used to ride this in the AM with rolled up burlap sacks in front of the sleds to dry the track before we opened it up for the day. the first runs were always crazy sketch because naturally we would still rip down it even though it was covered with the morning dew. any moisture on the track and you had no control but that is part of the thrill. if the track was wet and you pulled the brake it would actually make you go faster....downhill sideways two tires!!
