Hey Alpine , don't you think after U11 something weird happening with sniper rifle ? I've played a few games with it and it just doesn't feel right , crosshair is shaking as if am drunk , bullets doesn't land properly (sometimes I don't even see where it lands , feels like it just disappears in air) . Before the update sniper rifle worked perfectly , I don't understand why would they need to change anything in it ..

Sniper here. Something movies and games often get wrong, but which can be remedied in Hell Let Lose because it looks like you have so many options for cover, is that you rarely take more than one shot from the same fp. The sop is to select two positions, up to four if there's ample covering fire, moving between them with each shot. I say this not to critisize, but as a tip. A sniper serves two purposes, protect the forward operating line from threats and snipers they might not see and suppress the enemy while throwing them into disarray. Accuracy is irrelevant for the second purpose once you've proven accuracy by taking down one target. Moving between fp confuses an enemy now intent on locating your fp while keeping their heads down, rather than keeping your fp hidden. A distance sniper is almost impossible to target without artillery anyway. Disarray and confusion occupy the enemy force while the forward troops infiltrate and flank. I don't know how realistic the AI is in terms of reaction but it might be worth testing out. A unit can pierce an enemy position quickly and effectively if the sniper operates correctly, usually by flanking while the enemy desperately try to locate direction of fire. I've seen snipers using tracer rounds on other videos which is something you wouldn't do as this merely betrays your fp, especially if other enemy units have eyes on the field and a way to communicate. The window of opportunity can be drawn out, but usually the aim is to shock, suppress and confuse for quick infiltration. Artillery (particularly mortars) is the sniper's true enemy so leaving the established fp quickly is a priority. I don't know if the WW2 'sniper in the bell tower' was ever a real thing (I suspect not) but high ground with very limited options for a safe retreat should be avoided over low ground, low cover with easy access to a fall back position.

Alpine, I remember watching a few of your videos early last year thinking "oh man, this does look good - if only they could improve the sound design..." They definitely are the best at ambience. All that sky needs is a lightning strike in the distance and a roll of thunder. Im glad they beefed up the hedge rows. I went to Normandy on the 50th anniversary and we went around faliase and different areas and the hedgerow is no joke. Not only was it 10-20 feet high but the lower part was compacted dirt and roots. Crazy stuff. You could sit there and notice every spot where a ambush or a cross fire could take place. The lower generation found out we were US Army and came out and gave us wine and talked about the fighting there. Most said it looked the same as when our army crawled thru it.

Really? The sound design is a negative in my books. There are soooo many games that have better sound design. You can't even tell where a shot is coming from in HLL. Post Scriptum's sound design is the best I've ever heard in a game. Give HLL the sfx of Post Scriptum and HLL would be a godly game.

*You also don't get sniping at ALL in Hell Let Loose unless you have a NVME SSD and load into the game faster than anyone else. Those recon classes and squads are limited to 4 players out of 50, and they are gone in mere seconds. Good luck playing sniper in this game unless you have a really good SSD and load in before the other players.*

Yeah it is kind of silly, I can understand why they put a limit on it, but at the same time the system just ends up having the same people hogging the recon class every game, I've actively seen people in a locked 1/2 Recon Squad, the second you join there just waiting to switch to Sniper so they don't have to spot, it's really irritating.

Getting into a recon squad in this game is the easiest class to get into... you just gotta play with a friend! if you dont wanna be the spotter or work with him when you are the sniper then you have not understood the point of this class, or the point of the game in general... you can run off and find “the perfect spot”, get a 100 kills, and still all you managed to accomplish was helping your side loose the match...!

IraqVeteran8888 has a lot of really good long range videos that perfectly demonstrate the time it takes for rounds to go long range, watch the plates instead of listening for sound. Bullets are wicked fast. If anything a lot of games slow them down too much.

Games usually exaggerate travel times of bullets for gameplay purposes. The average 5.56 travels at around 800-900m/s and engagement ranges in HLL are usually under 100m. This guy seems to be engaging around 130-170m, so travel should be less than a second.

Red orchestra 2 had some decent sniper mechanics, particurlary that you could legit change the range and switch to iron sights if ya needed, granted the maps were much much smaller 64 players max per server, shame the game kind of died

It's hilarious seeing all the CoD guys in the comments like "[Yeah, this is absolutely better, because I'm getting huge kill streaks!!]" - because that's what defines a "good sniper game". I haven't personally played Hell Let Loose; but, from your gameplay, it doesn't come across all that realistic as a sniper. ARMA III is my go-to for sniper realism, as DayZ has lost its way.

Whoever starts the squad is going to be the spotter no matter what. The best thing to do is to have a friend with you and have them start a squad when you come in immediately as sniper. I know how you feel because I’m normally stuck a spotter as well. I’ve only had a chance to be a sniper twice.

It's just so much better - you still have peripheral vision, and it simply looks and works the same way as it does in reality. I am probably never looking back. I only know three more games (other than Insurgency series) that do this (haven't played any though): Red Orchestra 2 Escape from Tarkov (this one is probably the most realistic scope depiction I ever saw in game) Verdun
