Nice video on m6. I am a Leica user and my first M was M6. That camera had been with me since 1998 and I am still using it. No services except one time I did a simple cleaning Long time ago.

I’m so glad you made this video!!! I’m totally with you. It’s the film and lens that make the look, so what’s the point of film? Self righteous “delayed gratification”. That’s why. I went to photo school when film was dying out in the early aughts, and I’m tearing my hair out watching the world go mad over film. It’s like seeing people write in ink, scan it onto their computer, and posting online so others can read on their phones! The world has moved on from newspapers and they read on their phones. Likewise, no one goes to photo galleries anymore, they watch on their phones and laptops! So what’s the point when people shoot on film, then import to digital, edit in digital, and post on Instagram??? And when I shot film I had no idea how my photos would like until days later. The moment and event is gone. Now with digital I can adjust, focus, and shoot immediately and see if I’m happy with the shot or need to fight my way back to the front to get it. Madness. All of it.

Thanks for sharing! Film is an aesthetic, and if it’s enjoyed or sought after I’m all for it. But you’re right in the sense that it’s not “better,” as really in art, nothing is better. It’s all just a tool for the creator. Appreciate your comment!

@@davidherring I’m just annoyed because the photo messiah, Peter McKinnon, has gone to film and he’s going to trash the medium. Like calligraphy ink, it’s fine and has its place. But PM entering the space means he’ll get bored and dump it along with all support for film photography from his millions of followers. What I predict is there will be a stampede for film, demand and prices skyrocket, manufacturers will double up, then when it crashes, mfgs will get bit hard by the surplus inventory and crash production below pre-PM levels. Influencers create inorganic demand that doesn’t last, and that’s what’s grinding my gears. Or I’m an angry old man shaking his fist at the clouds idk

Ha I’ve enjoyed PM’s journey. But I 100% think you’re right - eventually people will get bored of it and we’ll see those prices come down.

I personally prefer to capture my life in a physical product (the negative) witch lives forever without four backups every four years.I waterprint almost every photo I shoot and shoot only if it is worth it.I don’t have instagram,I don’t have facebook,I don’t want to share my photos with anybody.I don’t even care about .It is still 0-1 and I can not control it.For my personal preference a natural product is the only think that matters.

Over the decades, I have owned and used the following 35mm rangefinder cameras: My first was an Argus C3 with 35, 50, and 100mm lenses. My second was a Minolta Hi-Matic 9 with fixed 45mm f/1.7 lens. My third was a Canon Canonet QL17 G-III with fixed 40mm f/1.7 lens. My fourth was a Contax G1 with 21, 28, 45, and 90mm lenses. My fifth was a Leica M6 with 21, 35, and 90mm lenses. All five were great cameras that produced excellent images. The excellent image quality of all five was due primarily to the lens. The only film camera body that I have used that had a big effect on the image quality (poor quality) was a Holga.

Very cool video on the M6 Dave! Nice to see a different approach. I was very lucky to grab a relatively "cheap" M6 on eBay a few weeks ago and although it is in optical great condition it needs some service. Luckily the total amount I paid for is way less compared to the current market value and I can't wait to get my M6 back in my hands to shoot some HP5 rolls of my family :)

Thank you! Congrats on finding an M6. When I got mine, it needed a little touch up as well. Had a small light leak at the bottom. Had DAG in Wisconsin fix it, and it’s been flawless since.

This video literally answered my question on why the m6 is so popular than other cameras. You said at the end of the day it’s just a shutter, I 100% now understand what you mean. It’s the build quality and design of the leica cameras that make them so sought after, just like the Fuji x100 lineup of cameras. At the end of the day each camera just shoots pictures and depending on good your lens is for film and what film you use depends on the image results it makes for the end result. Now with digital it’s a little different since each sensor is different due to the tech around the body but the lens still does majority of the work. I appreciate this video because other KZbinr give a false sense on how the m6 is so great but it’s no different than shooting on another great film camera for half the price.

Leica is not a suitable tool for the needs or ability of 90% of today's photographers. It has a mystique and prestiege about it that other cameras do not. Therefore, it has also become a badge of ' credibility ' and ' me too ' for a lot of people with more money than sense, and with little to show in the way of photography. I do have M2, M3 and M6 since a very long time ago and an M Typ240, but I also have all sorts of Nikon, Hasselblad, Rolleiflex, Pentax 67, 4X5 and 5X7 film cameras. When I want to do serious film photography it is either LF or MF, and when it has to be 35mm, then it is always my Nikon F4s, F3 or FE2, because they are flexible system cameras, superb tools that allow your creativity to take shape, sadly Leicas are not. They are limited in application in comparison with something like an F4s. The camera itself does not make a film photographer nor does it give you any particular look, whatever this elusive quality may be, although old Leica lenses do give a certain look to the photographs ( not the new ones ), but the right camera in the right hands can be magical. Look at the work of people like Hass, Leiter, or Gruyaert if colour is your thing. We can not substitute talent with instrumantality, not yet anyway.

And why wouldnt a leica be something that doesnt allow your creativity to take shape ? surely thats subjective and also down to what you enjoy using and most comfortable with. With your logic bc a camera can do more its therefore better ?

Do you want to do Macro with an M6? How about some sports photography? Can you use a long lens on an M6 to compress the scene in a landscape photograph? Leica is a range finder. Within its practical limitations is an outstanding if a very expensive tool. There is so much ' street ' or candid photography that one stomach, and as a Leica owner I can tell you with 100% of confidence that you don't need a Leica to do street photography. I can do more or less the same with my Minox or Olympus RD, and they are a lot lighter, smaller and cheaper. Yes it is a great experience shooting a Leica but that is not everything, and as I said it is a rangefinder and a great majority of people can not use a rangefinder for a variety of reasons. If my friend asked me for advice on a camera, the last brand that would cross my mind was Leica,. @@niftyfiftyfilm

@@lensman5762 never said it was everything but it works for street and quiet as anything and just a joy to use hence why I'm buying my mates m4-p soon. Lovely experience and no it's not easy to pick up initially but it's a joy for some. Don't need long lenses for street abd done need to compress anything. Not everyone needs autofocus in fact for 80 percent I prob don't either ya know. Use whatever works for ya!
