Literally, I've enjoyed a lot of mutually good PVP moments in SoT but this sorta thing always killed the vibe imo especially when you just wanna chill with friends. Looking forward to the Safer Seas mode in the next update.

You have to let go of the ladder, shoot and then grab back on very quickly

Easy counter, stand to the side slightly, or use blunder bombs to get them off the ladder
