I agree. The trinity is one of the many spiritual wonders of the Christian religion. As a Catholic, I even can hardly understand it. You can take many classes on it and study it all your life, yet never understand it to its fullest, as God is so wonderous we can't fully know him. I'm glad you realize that Jesus is the reason for the season.

Certainly far better than anything we'd have here in the States when it comes to these kinds of hymns. I mean, I know there's another hymn called "God So Loved the World" or whatever, that brought me to tears, but this version, on the other hand, QUITE joyful to be sure.

This is technically a Whitmonday (2. Pfingsttag) hymn in the liturgical cycle, but as is well known, JS Bach himself repurposed hymns from all over the year for different seasons and celebrations. So it can serve for Christmas equally, a celebration of the faith of the Trinity generally, which of course has to do with the incarnation of Weihnachts.
