No cuz I really hate having to turn to some large company for my clothes. Usually overly expensive or tacky. Love being able to customize my old clothes. Reuse and repurpose!!

i’m not in the alt crowd so i don’t understand the difficulty to find good alt clothes at thrift stores but, in my own style, the thrift store’s collection of clothes have ALWAYS been better than retail stores. in quality, durability and uniqueness

Finally someone who can explain what is wrong with dolls kill and killstar! Thank you, i've been finding and buying those brands second hand and i didnt understand what is wrong with them other than buying fast fashion being antithetical to many alt subcultures (i'm punk specifically, so I wouldnt buy them unless theyre second hand ofc). Now im a bit embarassed to have dolls kill items in my warderobe but I guess its better to keep using them then throw them onto a landfill out of embarassment...

Something really bizarre is happening in Brazil lately: thrift stores are becoming gourmet. When I buy a skirt, I want to pay for the skirt and not for the brand!!!This irritates me so much, it's very difficult to find a fair thrift store around here.

my opinion is if you're spending hundreds of dollars on fast fashion constantly, wearing the clothes once and never touching them again, then yes, that's an issue. But if you buy something that is fast fashion and you are gonna wear it until you can't anymore, then that isn't an issue. Thrift stores are expensive and usually hit or misses since nowadays everyone loves thrifting, and DIYs are also hit or misses if you don't know what you're doing. What annoys me the most tho is that the "popular" goths on social media (the ones with hundreds of thousands of followers) are always telling others to not buy fast fashion when they also wear it and shop at those places. i still have fast fashion pieces from 2020 that I still wear. being completely ethical in America is almost impossible due to how our country was built to begin with. also, its important to understand that just because certain brands are more popular or expensive doesn't mean that they aren't fast fashion brands, i think alot of ppl forget that. luv the knife mic btw lolol

@@dvrkville honestly I pretty much agree with you, like I said in the vid I don’t think we should be shaming anyone for what they buy, although I will have to disagree a bit in that - while yes thrift stores can be a hit or a miss - it really just depends on what you’re looking for. If you’re hoping to find a more detailed item like what you’d see on Killstar, you’re probably not going to find that. But, if you keep an open mind you can find many simple pieces that can become staples in your gothic wardrobe. Personally I like to look through the women’s blouse section as I can almost always find tops in black with ruffles, puff sleeves, and lace, as those are elements that I like to have - and I’ll usually accessorize with a corset and jewelry to create an elegant gothic outfit. As far as DIY goes, I agree that it can be a hit or miss in that you can try a DIY and have it not turn out how you wanted, but it’s also a trial and error process if you genuinely want to personalize your clothes and make them last. Sewing definitely has a bigger learning curve, but luckily there are much simpler diys such as adding pins, rips/tears, or dyeing your clothes :) You’re 100% right that price doesn’t equal quality, as many of these larger brands are definitely creating fast-fashion, and I think that’s why I personally prefer to just thrift bc - while yes it’s more expensive than what it used to be - that goes for just about everything these days, but it is still relatively a more affordable option than buying clothes new, assuming you’re trying to avoid the cheaper fast fashion brands lol. I’m glad you shared your opinion tho, I always love to see what other goths think about this subject! 🖤 it’s fun to discuss these things hehe :3

Just to throw it out there, Killstar and Dollskill might be the most popular among "normies", but there are lots and and lots of goth/alternative brands around that have even existed for much longer than the both of them. Poizen Industries, Necessary Evil, Tripp NYC, Gothicana by EMP, Punk Rave, Devil Fashion, Black Pistol, Banned Alternative, Kreepsville666, Schnittmuskel; the list goes on... Thrifting and DIY are of course your best friends, but even the new options are not as limited as one might think.
