His voice is very inconsistent!! Love the song though.

I would counter that his voice is consistently him. Just like some of the folk greats - this guy may have started out singing a bit nervously but he put rock solid work in and developed confidence - creating a beautiful palette. If you listen to Nina Simone you can still hear her nervous tremor. But she owns it so much it’s part of the song. Not saying this guy is Nina Simone at all. Just saying I find his voice rock steady and so passionate it brings me to tears.

I would add go and watch future islands on Letterman ... For an inconsistent performance ... Because the artist isn't playing safe ... and simply expressing. It's the same as watching a groom's voice break on their wedding vows
