Trying something new out here. I have been asked about my guitar tone plenty of times, so hopefully this video gains people some insight. If there's any other stuff you'd like to make to explain, lemme hear it in the comments!

hey dude i just saw your video, i have a few questions: (i dont have a tube amp) should my amp be clean or slightly pushed? i have a ts and a ds1 so whether or not the amp is slightly saturated makes a big difference; also i heard that lots of alternative/shoegaze/grungegaze bands tend to scoop out mids, slightly lower the low freq and slightly raising the high ones, is that true? thx so much dude i appreciate it

@@frax. for what it's worth, I also don't have a tube amp. I don't think they're required to get this sort of tone, but I'm sure they help. the amp being clean or driven is really up to you and your preference. I would try both and see what you prefer. there's no right or wrong way to make a tone at the end of the day. I'm sure that's true about the EQ, but it's not something I found necessary for the tone I'm looking for. should also note most amps react/sound differently when you do certain EQ moves. experiment and see what sounds good to you on your rig

think i could get pretty close to this with a 5150 and distortion pedal on the clean channel?

not really sure, ive never used a 5150 outside of amp sims. it's clean channel is notoriously dull though, so id imagine youll need more than a distortion pedal

How would you go about this if you had a modeling Amp like Boss Katana? Also for the Fleshwater covers, what pickup position were you using?

I'd approach it in a similar way, use a clean amp and push it with distortion and/or compression. I don't have experience with that amp though, so I'm not sure exactly how it reacts. For the Fleshwater stuff I was using the bridge pickup for the rhythm stuff, although that's a different guitar/pickups than the one in this video.

@@ChaboyAnthony Do you remember what pedals you used for the Fleshwater stuff? I thought it was a chorus pedal or something but I couldnt find one that sounded similar to the Fleshwater tone - both yours and the theirs.

@@usmcbf3090 Each song has different effects, but I used the chorus on a bunch of the songs. I used Neural DSP Gojira's chorus/reverb/delay etc

for some good fuzz alt rock stank tho honestly i just boost the fuck outta my dirt channel on my amp wit a boost and an od pedal and give'r a lil reverb sauce. neck pickup is still the key fasho, but for the fuzz tone honestly using a fuzz pedal is overrated. just force feed your dirt channel with way too much boost and ur golden lol
