so the negatives are: weight, battery life, battery temps, and I'm gonna say battery charging time as well. All of those are down to one component which is the battery itself. If someone could develop a fast charging, high capacity, light weight, and low thermal battery then we've got the next generation of motorcycles/cars. I didn't add cost into the equation because that's just the nature of a new technology. New tech has always been for the rich early adopters who need a new toy, or like to see innovation; us plebs just gotta wait for economies of scale to fall into our favor.

"If someone could develop a fast charging, high capacity, light weight, and low thermal battery" And yet the combustion industry keeps advancing and advancing and advancing, further widening the gap and making the battery even more of a stone age article. For instance, the internal combustion industry is making advancements in compression-ignition gas engines, using compression ratios as high as 18:1 for gas, drastically reducing all emissions without after-treatment, increasing power and torque a lot, and thermal efficiency going past 50%. If batteries were within 5 miles of closing the gap on equivalent energy density to gasoline liquid fuel (weight, space, transfer time, and energy release time), that gap will jump to 10 miles soon without any real amazing battery tech yet known of, despite the hype/claims. The gap between electric propulsion and gasoline propulsion back when Henry Ford built the Model T is roughly the same as it is today: same distance in price, cost to manufacture, recycling, time to refuel, and range of available capacity. The batteries advanced, but so did the combustion engine. No one wants to learn history, therefore most people believe their lifetime to have the most advanced tech ever known to man.

Nice review!! I knew about the (about $5000 too high!) price tag and the 50 mile/30 minutes + 2 laps moto battery life/range but NONE of the other tests, shootouts, or reviews mentioned the overheating issue..... Thanks : )'

Thoughts on the new MXR? they dropped the prices a lot on the full model range and the mxr is up to 50hp and it overheats alot less. Also the charge time is reduced! I'd personally love to see a EXr and SMr model

How long can the battery last? 5 hard laps and its overheating? Didnt they quote 6 hours?

I think they’ve solved the over heating issues with the 2018 models.

Unfortunately with lack of space on bikes untill thay make a battery that has smaller cells and higher capacity theres nothing out there worth buying for on road use

And it doesn't matter if they make the battery shape like a bowling ball or a pyramid of Egypt. The trouble is energy density, weight, cost, and time to refuel. The more compact the motorcycle, the more disadvantaged e-power will be. It's why a Tesla car weighs more than a 1/2-ton V8 truck. It takes that to get with rifle bullet range of an equivalent combustion compact car for range.
