Park at Loma Alta Park Staging Area (Equestrian Center). Head up Cheney Road and it takes you to the trail head. About a 6 mile climb. There is a sign that says Sunset Ridge. Horse Trail leads you right back to the car. It's 8.5 miles total. 2,200 ft elev. gain. Hope this helps.
