I had the opportunity to go to Dusseldorf a couple of years ago and stumbled across altbier. The first time I tried it, I immediately thought this is what beer is supposed to be and became my favorite style of beer. Unfortunately, it's not easy to find in the US. I guess I'll have to take another trip back to Germany! Great video.

Great video. :) One note to the Altbier glass. We actually don‘t call it a „Stange“ (pole) like a Kölsch glass (Kölschstange). It‘s actually called a „Becher“ (cup), so „Altbecher“ or „Altbierbecher“. :)

Great video Anthony! Altbier is a style that is not readily available over here. There are a few local versions that I had. I can't say how close it is to the real German ones, as I never had one, but I really enjoyed it. It is actually my next beer that I will be brewing (but the easy method, no extended lagering). Started with the recipe from BYO. I also enjoyed a local version of a Dortmunder Export, which I also no longer get. In my mind it is in the same ballpark as the Alt. All the best!!

Awesome to hear! The alt is such a smooth brew it's almost intimidating to me haha. Please let me know how it turns out! And honestly, I don't think I've had too many dortmunder exports so I actually can't make a comparison. However, I was planning to take a trip back north to visit dortmund to hunt down the exclusive adambier so I'll have to split the trips priorities and chase those too! Great history vid. In New England there are a large handful of breweries that brew altbiers. I've never had an authentic one though. Nice style Cheers Anthony
