My speakers were giving a lot of background hiss and when my house voltage was low, they would give out bursts of sound . could be weak capacitors. Now, the speakers just give out a very high pitched whine. I loved them a lot when they were working and would like to restore them. can you guide on what to do?

@@toymaniaa capacitors work to store and balance the voltage, capacitors not designed for stabilizing from 110 volt to 230 volt, I have same problem with my alteclancing although it's a great sounding home theater.

Hi, I have a model like the one bought above 10 years ago, if I'm not mistaken, I forgot to abandon it because there is a permanent background noise when it has no signal. Do you have any idea what it can have and if it is repairable?

Had these spks for 15 years, they sound brilliant, just yesterday the blue power light started flashing intermittently, and there was no sound output, thought it might be power supply on way out or a capacitor blowing on supply board, but they fecking glued it into bass box, cant get it out other than to cut rear of bass box, arghhhh, thinking maybe power switch could be faulty, not too sure don't want to wreck these, hate the fact that everything isn't so repairable like the good old days, any suggestions (apart from bin them) would be greatly appreciated, :-) ps many thanks for demo was a great help

I need a video on how to replace either the cannon plug or entire cable on the RT speaker. As the cable was bent several times close to the 9 pin plug causing intermittent left speaker cutout. (I got them that way and figure it's a broken wire at the plug) I was considering buying a 12 or 15 foot 9 pin mini din male to male patch cable from eBay for $15 and cutting it in half and being able to repair 2 sets of speakers with one cable. (this is a common issue with this model and very surprised I'm not finding a thing on it anywhere online) Also, They may be glued together but when working, they sound BADASS, so please, Don't Diss the Lansings man! lol I currently own 3 sets now but have had 5 or 6 at one point plus another model of them that are even louder, badder than the 4121's. Altec has good sounding powered speakers. I like the 2.1 systems the best. Simple, stereo, connect to anything. BTW: that's only temporary glue you're using. I would bet PVC or ABS plumbing glue would seal the deal or even 2 part epoxy with a toothpick. On another project, I have just a 4121 sub kicking around and want to do this: I have taken apart the sub box and removed the power amp and power supply and plan to install it into a huge Z5300 Logitech sub box kicking around and using it for the woofer. lol a few mods, perhaps a larger heat sink on output chips or fan and I should have a good sounding huge hard hitting woofer for a set of the 4121 satellite speakers. (this is only an experiment but hope it works out) Update on my project sub experiment: I cut a panel out to let me install the 4121 sub power panel. It is now installed in my Logitech Z5300 woofer and have created a new animal. I call the set of speakers my "Logitech Lansings" lol They sound good but wish I had a bigger output capacitor for more bass punch without cranking the bass up from it's usual flat point. Sounds good and makes others scratch their heads.

Anyone notice the low pass filter is gone when POTS are dirty? My sub plays a full spectrum of audio with these. Doesn't sound like the low pass filter is working . oddly still sounds good! Anny advice?

@Karma Electronics Hello, i have the Altec Lansing VS4121 just like in your video. I've had them for about 12 years. And i used them about every day on my pc. Tonight all of a sudden i heard sort of a popping that would alternate , it would just go from the left speaker to the right speaker. Pop, pop - Pop, pop. Medium level sound i guess. Does that stand out to you as any particular issue i should investigate 1st? I know that's not much to go on. Thanks.

The left channel speaker in my VS4121 went silent two months ago and it suddenly came back to life a couple of days later. Two days ago it died again. I can hear some low volume white noise from all three drivers in the left unit when it's connected. Any ideas?

could be pots or solder. try jiggling the rear plug

It's most likely a bad solder connection. There's a chance that it could be a bad cable as well. Dissemble the unit and do a continuity test.

Heya, I have this model of speaker and I'm having trouble with it.. the cable on the left speaker is internally detached at the point where the stress cone meets the speaker housing.. I imagine I'll need to detach the entire bottom of the speaker in order to access the busted cable.. were you ever able to take the rest of the assembly apart? Is it even worth trying? And/or, any idea where I can find a replacement for the entire left speaker assembly? Cheers yo

CRC QD Electronic Cleaner works fine for circuits. Use it sparingly as too much of it can dissolve the glue.

I lost all respect for Altec... They are not designed to be repaired.... They are glued shut and peppered with inaccessible screws... I just opened a VS2321 and there are 2 screws under the grill on the sub and the rest of the front fascia is glued on with Black hole gravity... Found a bad transformer and it is glued in and near impossible to replace... Funny thing is there's a replaceable glass fuse on the amp board..... LOL
@howiebird9410
@howiebird9410 5 жыл бұрын
Everything is designed that way now, Get used to it. "No user serviceable parts inside" I bet the fuse is soldered too. Even cell phones. I want to be able to take my damn battery out without having to dismantle it! I like old school rock solid stuff and even with TVs I choose LCD over all other technology for it's ability to last longer than LED TVs typical 3-4 yrs before the LED strips burn out or plasma TVs that run hot and eat huge power and weigh 400lbs. (My TVs are all over 10 yrs old and work great) I changed a t-con board on one. big whoop. I have 4 LCD TVs and they are all Samsung. LG sucks for anything from TVs to cell phones. Give me an old Marantz 2170 2 ch. receiver, not this 7.1 crap. Warm powerful sound in a beautiful case. A nice old school car, nothing smart or self driving. It's just more shit subject to fail and now capable of taking human life too. Great world huh? Keep buying new phones, cars and gadgets, there aren't enough fucking land fills out there. Global warming is gonna bite us all in the ass folks. Glad I'm not young enough to experience whats to come. Sorry for the rant and for your info, I use reusable bags and I still have an older phone. I'm not into new shinny stuff unless it fixes my old not so shinny stuff. lol Please Rebuild, reuse, recycle
