Well, the characters are meant to represent the id and super ego while you are technically the ego in a loose sense. There's quite a bit of Freudian psychology here so yeah, Es is technically speaking directly to the player who is you

I really can't decide which one is the worst ending for her. See the tears in her eyes hurts so much, but see her out of control urging to destroy everyone and everything compels me with guilty.... I'm happy to get the Alter Ego ending and see her okay everyday ❤️

yknow the protagonist in alter ego sorta reminds me of okabe rintarou from steins gate, in the sense that they both are faced with bad endings no matter what, and return back in time to try and change fate but never succeeding until they find a loophole to save everyone after multiple attempts.

This game is sweet and all, but I can't help but feel like these DLCs undercut Es' character growth. We went through all that to convince her to be her own person, and now she can only say codependent things like, "Don't leave me, not ever, I wouldn't even want to live anymore if you left." It's good waifu melodrama but it's out of place in a game about psychology and avoiding self-destructive excess.

I think the DLCs are Es from the other endings- dependent on the player for self growth. Which is why they’re out of character a little bit

I'm late to the discussion but also, even if I generally agree I also think it adds to her questioning if she's codependent on us at some point in the game. When you've been alone for a long time getting extremely attached to someone happens. In conclusion; I just think it's both a bit of wAiFu melodrama for the fans and an addiction to the actual plot.

Damn this hurt to read, meta writing when done well really manages to bring some powerful emotions out. So it was with Undertale and DDLC, now so it is with Alter Ego. I was absolutely not expecting an Idle game of all games to hit so hard and so powerfully.

Most likely because she's stuck in the unconscious mind--the prison/study she's stuck in. We and Ego Rex can move through the Inquiry (the conscious mind) because the Ego and Super Ego exists both in the conscious and unconscious mind, while Es, being the Id that she is, is stuck in the unconscious realm, thus she's always stuck in that room. At least, I think that's how it works for her.

She doesn't have an exit. It's not as if she has a door and some fear paralyzes her. She exists entirely within this library (which also seems to have running water and food, given her talking about scrubbing the spot out at one point.)
