Altering the shape of a thrown dish with textured surface - Ridge Pottery

Douglas Phillips alters the rim of a leather hard dish and discusses its shape and form. The dish was previously thrown "upside down" and cut off the wheel with a twisted wire tool. See my 2016 video showing how a tool made from an old Bowden cable is used to decorate the surface of the dish.

I’ve taken several videos at Ridge Pottery Summer Schools. The demonstrations are informal, often impromptu, and show a particular making technique and/or illustrate elements of a pot’s shape, form and function. As well as the demonstration there is often discussion with students that lend the videos an informal quality which (I think) adds to their interest and enjoyment.
