I happened across this channel randomly and for the life of me I cannot understand why it is not more popular. The death of HEMA video is quite eye opening for one. You guys deserve way more attention and publicity. My club has shaped up to be one of the "living lineage" places, since we try to figure out what works and what does not on our own. Also, it is hard to research manuals for polish sabre fencing, since they are not really a thing. One might say we are trying to raise the system from the grave collectively as polish historical fencing community, but it is taking forever D:

This is why I keep coming back to these videos - little Savate joke thrown in for spice. XD. For serious, though, I actually struggle a lot with unsafe actions when it comes to low parries and this was a good tutorial! Now I'll have some better ripostes from those lower guards. :D

Additional bit i wanted to clarify. Question: what sort of steel weapons suppliers do you recommend? I'm especially interested in sabres and singlesticks (arming swords).

@@zwidowca1 I like Purpleheart, Castille, and Manticore.

Hey Russ, sorry to bother but I had a question: does this style of fencing apply only to austro-hungarian sabres of the 19th-20th c. or to any curved saber with a false edge in general (such as a kılıç, shamshir, szablya, etc)?
@russmitchellmovement3 ай бұрын
@@oneandonlyleo Should easily be applicable to kilic and similar, a little less so with shamahir but usable.

@@russmitchellmovement I see, thank you. On a different note, I have recently picked up your manual and I had a question about it: In one of the very first pages, it describes a routine which involves walking forward with cuts 1 and 2 and then backwards with the same cuts. My question is, how do you walk forward with cut 1? Should I take a direct step with the hind foot, cut 1, step with the other foot and cut 2, or should I take a slight step with the forward foot, cut 1, step with the hind foot and cut 2? Thank you in advance.

Is Kat's dance now canon for warmup?

Could you make a video on weaponized grappling? When does it make sense to close in during a swordfight? Examples: Disarms, Throws. Arm entanglements Getting the weapon between both legs or between arm and neck. Using it as a bar over the throat. Etc.

Russ, can you show with masks, it actually happening with a real reaction. Showing your face is fine for video; however, can either show a practice doing the alterative cuts or during the lesson. For one who has been coaching for a while, it would be nice to see a real application of the action in real time.

Should be doable -- just have to get the masks over to where we film.
