I don't get it, you're adding dichromate into the gelatine solution? Or doing a layer of gelatine and then a layer of dichromate on top?

Art historian here. I wish i could convince photographers to drop the "alternative photography" terminology. We all say "historical photo processes" because (obviously) they weren't alternative to anything when they were created. They WERE photography. And now that digital is here to stay, isn't film photography becoming "alternative" to the most dominant technology? Petty point? Maybe. Probably. But it does slightly confuse students.

Hello Floyz, Resinotype is old photographic process based on sensitizing narmal gelatin (not photo gelatin) with dichromate salts. After sensitizing, gelatin is photo sensitive to UV light. I create the image the way I print positivie (yes, it is not mistake, it has to be positive) sheet and by contact printing I expose the image under UV light. Dichromate is washed out then and final step is applying pigment. Après sensibilisation, la gélatine est photosensible aux rayons UV. Je crée l'image de la façon dont j'imprime positivie (oui, ce n'est pas une erreur, il faut que ce soit positif) feuille et en imprimant j'expose l'image sous lumière UV. Le dichromate est ensuite éliminé par lavage et la dernière étape consiste à appliquer du pigment. Hello Barrie. No I don't mix pigment with resin, It is not necessary. Pigment adhere to gelatine even without it .

Stig, I paint dichromate over the dried gelatin, not mixing it together. Gelatin thus dries faster

Hello, I accidentally found your movie when I was looking for information about another historical process. I would like to say that I am very impressed with your work. I'm working in gum bichromate, but I am looking for other photographic forms and techniques. I would like to ask you if you use gelatin or another medium to create the matrix. I wonder if gum arabic could be useful too. I'm most interested in how the dry pigment adheres to your matrix. I would be grateful for your response. Regards Rafał.

Hello Rafal, yes, as a matrix is used classic gelatin. I also experimented with gum arabic, but process is quite different and I prefer gelatin. Pigment, after drying the gelatin, is fixed in the gelatin body, so no worry. In addition you can fix it for sure by some dim acrylic spray

@@resinotype Thank you for your answer. It's really amazing technique. I have a few natural pigments which I use in gum bichromate process. Do you think they would be alright? And I have to prepare a diapositive of course. I usually use saturated ammonium dichromate solution. Will it be suitable? Or should I use potassium dichromate? I am sorry to ask so many questions, but I am very excited about this technique. Although I can see that it is time consuming.

@@MrAlterNus Yes It is very time consuming technique :) Anyway, I use Potasium dichromate 3% solution. Pigments mustn't be soluble in water, but you have to try which works and which not. No problem, fell free to ask.
