Alternative Seam Sealer for sleeping pad leaky heat welds

If you want higher volume for a fraction of the price, try this seam seal formula for sleeping pads. This works well with heat welded pads that can spring lots of leaks at each weld. Make sure you buy the kitchen/bath silicone and not the window doors silicone!
Update 5/26/2020: In the video I suggested that a 50/50 mix works to seam seal tents. After one month on the trail, the silicone began to delaminate from my Big Agnes Rattlesnake 1 tent. I don't recommend the mixture for tents at this point. I'm exploring some new mixtures but haven't trail tested them yet.
The seam seal is still performing well on the sleeping pad.
Update: after 2 years, the silicone began to flake off on the edges of the seals. I'm currently using another adhesive called LEXEL and it's working better.

I have since experimented with some alternative adhesives and found that LEXEL brand works even better than the 100% silicone. Same ratios.

Exactly the information ℹ️ was looking for. Economic sealing of large heat weld micro leaks in my Big Agnes pad. Lexel is good product.

What would you recomend for leaks around the seams on the sides...where the stitching is heat sealed?

I would go for gear aid seam grip if you’re patching a smaller area. If you’re doing the entire circumference, “Lexel” by sashco diluted to 50% would be the next best bet. When using mineral spirits to dilute, be sure to use the classic formula low odor and not the “green” better for the environment version. The latter does not chemically react well with the adhesive.

In addition, I have recently run the seam of the pad through a sewing machine and then glued over the stitched seam. This prevents the seam from coming apart again. Worked well.

Glad it was helpful. I'm not sure if I mentioned it in the comments but I found a better adhesive. It's called Lexel. adheres better.

@@outdoorgearrepair9187 awesome! Thanks again! I've been testing the gear aid tape patches. I've used one on my thermarest self inflating seat. And three weeks of daily use, and I haven't re-inflated it once. That's obviously as much of an investment in patches, as a very good sleeping pad, doing what you did in this video. But just thought I'd share what's worked for me recently as well.
