Alternators and Dynamos | Magnetism | Physics | FuseSchool
This video is all about alternators and dynamos. They both use magnetic fields to produce electric power. Ships, cars and motorbikes use alternators to charge their batteries. Toys, power tools and your bicycle lights use dynamos. Keep watching to find out more!

I have a question: 1:41 why does the wire create maximum potential difference when it is parallel to the magnetic field lines, I'm sure it's because the two sides of the coil (wire) have up and down forces and that is what creates the maximum potential difference?
@keithross7058
@keithross7058 3 жыл бұрын
Not quite. You get a PD when the current CROSSES lines of force. When the coil is vertical the movement of the wire is along the lines of force so NO PD. When the coil is horizontal you are cutting lines of force at right angles therefore you get the maximum PD here
@paulathornley1453
@paulathornley1453 3 жыл бұрын
Because the wire is cutting through the most magnetic field lines. When it is vertical, it doesn’t cut through any magnetic field lines (because the magnetic field lines would be going through the middle of the coiled wire rather than “hitting” the wire.
