This is my first season heating with an outdoor wood boiler. I’m an HVAC tech, and installed everything myself with most of my parts supplied by AltHeatSupply. I’d just like to say thank you, as your videos have been very helpful. You are very knowledgeable. I fell for the 2400 hype as well, as I have a longer run. So far everything is heating great, but will probably try an 011 if the 2400 dies.

We stopped carry the 2400-WB pumps. We agree they had a high fail rate. Taco 0011 BF4-J pump is the right pump for the application.

purchase my pumps and maintenance items from AH&Supplies. thanks for the info. i have 2 pumps on my boiler 1 for my house and 1 for shop. mounted 1 pump on bottom and returned to top. mounted 2nd pump on top and returned to bottom. seemed like the best way to keep water mixing around boiler. kept nice long sweeps on pex and used 45 deg fitting where applicable instead of 90deg fittings to keep better flow. very happy with system.

These videos are extremely helpful, thanks for making them available. I have a pump related question that is really a more general cry for help than a direct comment on this video, so forgive me for asking it here. I just installed a Central Boiler 560, Taco 011, 70 plate water to water heat exchanger, 130ft one way from house (all ThermoPEX), 20 more feet one way in house, so figure 300+ distance. Outdoor boiler setpoint 190, differential 15 (set like that due to the issue). Wrap-around pump installed inside so always heating indoor furnace core. Everything "works" except I am experiencing significant heat loss (10-15 degrees) from the outdoor boiler to the heat exchanger. More than that the higher the temp in the outdoor boiler, the worse the heat loss. The indoor boiler NEVER heats higher than 180, no matter what the temp is in the outside boiler. I'm wondering if this phenomena is the "crash" that can occur with the Taco 011 "tractor trailer" that you mentioned. It almost seems that at the high temp some kind of venturi-induced air lock affect may occur in the Taco 011 that seriously slows down the water flow. Note I regrettable have two 90 degree elbow fitting within a foot of the pump to get into the thermopex, and the elbows themselves are maybe 2 inches apart - perhaps creating an ideal situation for venturi air lock affect? At the higher temps, 185+, the taco 011 makes clicking (not gurgling) noises that seem to increase as the boiler temp does. Again, probably not the appropriate forum for the question, so forgive me, but I'm running out of ideas...

Sounds like your loosing all you heat in the ground. If your loosing 15 degrees in the ground on way you have something wrong right there. You should only be loosing a couple degrees. Start there. Jeff

I designed and install my complete system with the help of your videos, thank you! I used a UPS26-99FC, 3-Speed Circulator Pump, 1/6 HP, 115 volt. My one way run is approximately 140'. Trying to determine which pump setting will give the best performance? In theory, pump as much water as possible or slow and steady?
@AltheatsupplyLLC2 жыл бұрын
The pump your using Grundfos 26-99 is a good pump for your application. You are also correct, pump slow and steady. Ideally you would like 10 to 12 GPM for best heat exchange. Jeff

I'm installing an indore wood boiler on the outside of a 35 foot RV planning to build a small building around it do you know what size heat exchanger I would need to heat my RV? Also It will be not more than 60 ft from the rv

Sorry but I know nothing about RV heating systems...

Which pump would you suggest for plain water in a boiler so it doesn't rust?
@AltheatsupplyLLC11 ай бұрын
The J pumps with the bronze cartridge. Example Taco 0011 BF4-J

What is the maximum distance my outdoor wood boiler can be from my house or shop?
@AltheatsupplyLLC2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the pumps and underground insulation. Need to get the water there and not lose to much of your heat in the ground. The closer the better and a lot less expensive. The longest run I recommend is 300 feet. after that to expensive.

Good pump..

That is an ECM pump. It contains permanent magnets and will attract iron particles. You should use a magnetic trap before the pump.
