I have a mark VII tenor saxophone and I honestly love it. Some keys are a bit hard to reach (namely the pinky keys), but it is manageable with practice and scale-work. A lot of the sound you create as an artist comes from how hard you work on building and darkening it. The harder you work and the more you practice, the easier it is to hone your sound, regardless of the horn.

I also have a Mark 7 alt sax, my sax teacher a mark 6. but i prefer more my mark 7, it- sounds warmer and better than the Selmer 6 from my sax teacher

Thank you for looking my first test video! Thank you for the commets! I would like to tell that I am a professional flutist and not a saxophonist but I am playing also saxophone because I like it! Yes M 6 is the best for me. I think these instruments are not only for professional musicians and I think it is not wrong when the test is made by a non-professional saxophonist. Please see my homepeage www.vargaendre.hu and my website. www.woodwinds.hu. Thanks for all visitors expecially for the 20.000th visitor!

You couldn't go wrong - both are nice horns - the VI has a cool cutting edge with it but I'd settle for either! Nice playing too - I have come to realise that jazz is an international language spoken by people all over the world no matter what their native tongue. Isn't that remarkable? Well, it strikes me as remarkable anyway.

I've had both alto models. It's all a matter of what you prefer in your hands, as in feel. Of course the vii is darker, but this can be changed using a brighter mouthpiece. On the vii, the low c key is bigger. The left hand pinky low register keys on the vii are not as easily maneuverable as the vi. Straight up easy free blowing though, the vi is as good as it gets. I spent less time trying to get a good jazz tone on the vi than on the vii. I think the vii was built primarily for classical playing, and the vi for jazz. They're both great horns though.

I have a Mark VII and already someone said in the comments that any notes using the octave key are sharp and he's right.Mark VIIs are good if you play fast bebop tunes where people can't notice the pitch intonation as much when using the octave key, if you're going to play slow ballads you're best bet is the Mark VI, a Yamaha or Yanagisawa for that matter.

Well done. I think the room acoustics in this room are good. As in many other KZbin videos the Mark VI can sound different...if the room has a few or many hard surfaces for the sound to bounce off of. Or what other objects are sitting in the room.

Im thinking of getting a professional saxophone, and I think Im gonna with the Mark VII. It just sounds smooth and the mark vi just sounds more a clunky Idk. Im only a freshman in high school and Ive been looking into professional saxophones lately and this might be my go to. Does anyone else have any other reccomendations?

It's quite simple; you can transform MK7 into MK6, but not the other way round. Both have the same basic core timbre. Using the same mouthpiece, MK7 sounds a bit subdued, which is perhaps due to extra weight of brass. But it supports lower notes better. With a few simple changes, in the mouthpiece, tip opening and reed, MK7 can brighten up, and will be literally undistinguishable from MK6.

Being a professional saxophone player for over 40 years I personally say I don't hear a difference. I have a mark 7 and a cannonball and my cannonball is my major instrument. My Mark 7 is a backup horn. A great backup might I say. 😀

And intonation on your mark vii is good?
@mosider48462 жыл бұрын
One thing that bothers me: during the demonstrations on both saxophones the mouthpiece is out far enough that the saxophones play a semitone flatter than they should. There’s nothing wrong with the playing itself, but the tone quality would be different and more accurately represented if the mouthpiece was pushed in far enough to play in its intended pitch. Then at 2:23 there is a pre-recorded example of the same person playing saxophone in the correct pitch. The difference is unsettling

Not gonna lie the difference is quite clear, and the 6 sounds better. I'm usually the one to say there's no difference.

The Mark VII is soft and listening compare to Mark VI is really really good of any genre, live or soft melody,., Mark is a Brilliant sound!

Very nice playing. I actually prefer the darker timbre of the VII. I'm curious - what are your player's impressions regarding action and response on the two?

I actually prefer the mark 7 because it isn't as bright as the mark 6 and it has a lot of weight with the tone especially in the bottom register.

These sound typical. The VI has this vibrancy in the higher mid frequencies, almost like a slight tube distortion, and a brighter, somewhat thinner sound than the VII which is darker and more focused.

its pretty obvious in this video that the vii sounds much more darker. there is this misconception here in korea that a vii sounds more brighter (as if its more suited towards rock and roll). can someone verify? i've heard that it was designed by frederick hemke to be meant as the perfect classical saxophone.
@vpsaxman10 жыл бұрын
Yeah most VII's sound darker than VI's, especially late VI's.

You can overhaul that Mark VII until doomsday, and it will never sound as good as the Mark VI. The elder VI stays true, and sounds richer and fatter, where the VII is "off". I felt the VII broke up too easy when pushed. My old Bundy student horn would have sounded better than a VII.

Mark VII is not really 'legendary'.Good horn,maybe a sleeper,but definitely not 'legendary'.
