I heard the 2018 refurb was supposed to bring the spirit of the original Haunted House back with new queue effects and new soundtrack, I think it’s meh. The queue now has haunted portraits that change into scary images, which seems cool. But the rides story is about the reanimation of the dead from a genetic surgeon and not you going into a haunted house like every haunted house ride (not the cheesy carnival ones). And this change may make little kids frightened or uneasy to ride since they need to go through the queue past the portraits (I Think they were to bring the original portraits from Haunted House in a new way). I can’t imagine how many kids leave the house screaming. And now the soundtrack, I just think it’s meh. At least it succeeds in fitting in with the scary theme of Duel. But the original by David Buckley was really catchy and also made the ride more fun. The new one is kinda like Haunted House-ish (which is good), but it feels kinda boring. That’s why I prefer the original.

I remember hearing the pre-show audio in the first section of the indoor queue before the tilted room this year, so at least they've kept some remnants of the old Duel so far.

No. The HEX narration is done by Jim Carter - it is unknown who narrated the DUEL announcements.

it does, the theme of duel is surposed to be a comedic haunted house its surposed to make you scarred with comedy so a non scary sound track fits
