The sound of that SD45 is PRICELESS!!!!!! Probably one of a few left in 1985.

Those were the times. I went to the bridge above Alto in 1985, it looked more complex, than it does today, since they moved the switches and everything around.

Nice footage. Would love to know more about the ballast train coming off the Cove track.

Looks like Alto needed a new roof! Miss those ex-EL SD-45's in helper svc! Thanks for the look back in time!

Sounded like the Pennsylvanian approaching there at the end. My family visited the Curve in 1985 before the K4 was taken out. I made trips back to the area in 2003 and 2004. Great place to visit. Trains, history, and beautiful scenery all coming together.

That is awesome! Nothing like seeing some old clips of the Pittsburgh Line! Great shot at ALTO, too, sure looked great back when it was in use. If you have any more clips of the Pittsburgh Line, I'd love to see them!

I sure wish it was Conrail today or better yet Pennsylvania.

This is great stuff! Made me realize I need more plain white trailers... I do have a question though. Are you absolutely sure this was 85? I thought the SD45s were all gone by then. I mean, it's good news for me if they weren't. But I want to be sure. Also, any idea what's up with that ballast train coming off the Cove?

I'll have to watch the video again at some point to doublecheck, Ed. My dad would usually say the date at some point in the video. It could be 1984. I can tell you this same day there was also an ex-CNJ SD35 still working the helper pool.

This can't be later than September 1985 because the K-4 is still on the curve in this footage.

I'd believe it was 85. I visited in August of 84 and nearly every train still had a caboose, so the lack of cabooses makes me think it was after 84.

Quick research shows that by 1/1/86, there were still 49 SD45's on the roster, but in storage.
