Great video! As a road marathoner for the past 5 years, I'm always looking for new shoes to help me reach my goals. This post is very informational... I'm normally a Hoka nd Saucony fan, but the zero-drop Altras are very intriguing As a fellow KZbinr and reviewer, I love sharing my experiences and knowledge as well. I know how much goes into these videos! Keep posting - I just subscribed!

Have been wearing these for 2 years every day and they are excellent for long runs. They are the only zero drop wide toe box running shoe I'll wear because of the thicker padding compared to totally barefoot shoes. I'm sad about the colourways though, I just want an all black shoe without the stupid coloured sole or an all white shoe.
@RyanClaytonFilms2 жыл бұрын
Ah, I really like the bold bright colors! Altra does have a lot of black options, but I guess you do have to get a bright colored sole

compared to 1.5 they are stiff and need breaking in period, walking in them helps, the upper is great for summer, i wear these in summer only then cut to 1.5/1.0/2.0 for the other months

I recently got the Colorado colorway of the Escalante Racer over the Escalante 2.0 on sale when I discovered how heavy the 2.0 was. It just felt wrong that it should be heavier then the Torin. I ran like 90% of my runs in the Escalante 1.5, last year including my first Marathon. I'm really glad I went with the Racers as I really like them, I think the firmness of the midsole is actually quite comfortable, the breathability is top notch and they sit like a glove without feeling like a vice clamping my foot. I know most people want you to do the 100 around here, but if you feel the need to be careful about a single training run in some new shoes, then maybe sit this one out until everything feels right.
@RyanClaytonFilms4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dag, loving them so far! And yes, you're right about listening to your body, passing on the 100 next weekend. Did a test run this weekend and I'm a few weeks out from really being able to take a shot. Gotta be smart! ✌️

@mwmensen3 жыл бұрын
I have the original Escalante, the 2019 USA Escalante Racer, the Escalante 2.0, and the Escalante 2.5. Original and the 2.5 are great everyday trainers... soft, springy, responsive, flexible. The 2.0, while still a good shoe, it lost the flexibility of the midsole and upper that everyone loved. The Escalante Racer is quite different in my mind. The Racer definitely has a more secure fit for cornering at race speed. The Racer also has a much more firm midsole that helps create an every so slight rocker feel for the increased cadence with running at race pace. I only wear my Escalante Racer for races and track/speed workouts. I love the flexibility and springiness of the Escalante 2.5! But that flexibility slows you down when pushing the speed as it makes your feet work more. The colors of the Racers is so much better than the regular Escalante.
@RyanClaytonFilms3 жыл бұрын
Awesome!! Still love them and agree that saving them for quality workouts or races is probably a good idea because of how quick the sole will wear out
@iakona232 жыл бұрын
I bought the Escalante 2.5 and I am returning it. I love the comfort of the upper and how it feels just walking around for casual use. But for running it’s too squishy, as you say in the video, and it also has very poor traction in wet conditions. When I realized that I even preferred running in my On Running Cloudventure Waterproof shoes on pavement to the Escalante 2.5, (and the Cloudventure is a heavy stiff unpleasant brick running on pavement) then I knew that the Escalante 2.5s had to go!

Great review man! Love my racers. Which do you Think is the better shoe out of torin 4 (not plush) and 4.5 plush? Is there a need for both? I have the torin 4 regular and Think it's a great shoe and the comfiest shoe i have. Do you know why they just made the 4.5 plush and not torin 4.5? Seems like they would release them at the same time like they did previously.
@RyanClaytonFilms4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I like the regular Torins more than the Plush, but run in both plenty. I don't know if they plan on updating the Torins later this year or not. The rumor is that they are going away from the ".5" updates, but that's not for sure.

I’m looking for an answer that I can’t find when googling. Has anyone here come from a drop shoe like a Brooks Ghost to a zero drop shoe like an escalante? What was your experience?
@RyanClaytonFilms3 жыл бұрын
Take your time when transitioning to zero drop. 1-2 runs a week with them, and the rest in your regular shoes. Over a couple weeks slowly run more in them. If you get pain anywhere back off a bit. Some people hardly notice and others have a really hard time transitioning, but good luck!

Ryan - I’d love to see a Stryd pod video! Curious ... the website says it can improve GPS accuracy. Is that a legit claim?
@RyanClaytonFilms4 жыл бұрын
Sounds good!! I'll work on something. Claiming to improve GPS accuracy is a bit misleading because what it's doing is filling in the missing data when GPS gets weak. There is no GPS chip, but it can greatly improve accuracy of all metrics when GPS is weak or non existent.
