Almost a month before I got discharged from the USAF a F-4 tornado came through Wichita Falls. 44 people died that day. One fifth of 120,000 people were homeless. There's KZbin videos about this tornado.

We had one come through about 10 years ago with grapefruit sized that were rolling along like bowling balls once they hit the ground. And they were coming in on an angle that took out all the windows on our home that faced north. Balls of ice came rolling across the busted out windows across the room and dented the refrigerator on the opposite side of the room. My truck which was parked under a carport sustained damage along one side where the balls of ice bounced off the pavement and up into the truck's side. My neighbor's pickup with sunroof had one ball come through the roof glass hit the steering wheel and bent the horn button so the horn was sounding throughout the storm. It lasted about 20 minutes, preceded by a tremendous lightning storm. The metal roof on my house, which I had just installed was dented severely. The sheriff told us that about half the windows in town were destroyed. Cars that sat outside were totaled.

I was stationed at Altus AFB from 1973 to 1974 and I didn't think it sucks and I was and now from Michigan. One dust storm through there and that was the extent of "bad weather" there. But I have ski trips on my "bucket list". My civilian supervisor let me have time off. But I didn't tell him where I planned to go. Go to Colorado to go skiing for 4 days off including the weekend. A half day skiing at Vail, a full day skiing each at Snowmass, Aspen Highlands, and Aspen Mountain. Then drive all the way back to Altus AFB with no sleep and stop for just gas and caffeine. Got to base, off loaded car to my dorm, changed into my fatigues, when to my warehouse job and finally no breakfast. I was on time or maybe just a few minutes late after 8:00 am. Did this a few weeks later minus Aspen Highlands and last place went to Taos Ski Valley, New Mexico for skiing. Okay, people may think and say I was lucky, very lucky that I didn't crashed my car, car accident, caught in blizzard. This was back in the day when it was 55 mph national speed limit on the nation's highways. Also going westbound on Interstate 70 up to Loveland Pass was backed for 5 miles to the Eisenhower Tunnel. The eastbound tunnel through Loveland Pass wasn't completed at the time. So both directions had two lanes converted to one lane each through the westbound completed tunnel. It's been completed since 1977 I think. Now it's known as the Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnel. The highest elevation tunnel in the world over 12,000 feet. And the longest in the USA.

Cool story, bro: I used to work for a DIY chain store. We had a regular customer who was...I dunno, he had a REAL heavy eastern European accent - Chech, Hungary, Romania maybe? Nobody ever wanted to wait on the guy because he had real bad BO and always bitched about how stupid Americans are. He was in the store one afternoon when we got a severe t-storm or tornado warning. Green sky, golfball size hail, easily, maybe bigger. The whole damn nine. Lot of people were around the exit doors watching their cars get pounded and this guy comes up, says (loudly) something about "Stupid Americans scared of weather" and barges out the door. About a minute later he staggered back in bleeding badly from his face and head, after getting beat down by hail stones. Store manager called an ambulance and he got hauled off. Never saw the guy again after that. Maybe he embarrassed himself a little.
