Thank you for showing how a pair of dies are used together to produce a hollow cross-section of extruded material.

Only one die, one is called a bolster and it's mostly used to support the great force exerted on the die

Coming from someone who has both ran an extrusion press and also works on and corrects aluminum extrusion dies, I found this quite fascinating to watch as almost the entire video correlates very similar to the job I do/did. Awesome job

I’m currently a student in an engineering program for high school and was wondering how a hollow extrusion could be manufactured. Wouldn’t you need a floating bit in the die, like shown in the video? How does that work?
@jalenchaundy Жыл бұрын
@@daanthill4112 good question. For the direct extrusion method, which is the same method shown in the video, we can extrude a hollow shape profile with a two or three piece die similar to the one in the video. The desired profile specs is ultimately what determines die design, but with a two or three piece “combo die” as I call them, the mandrel creates your ID profile while your cap (middle piece) creates your OD profile. The third piece, if the die has one, is typically just reinforcement steel known as a “backer”. Any other questions feel free to ask away man. I’m currently a draftsman so I can atleast do my best to answer any.

What happens to all the material that isn't pushed through the die?
@sasor0982 жыл бұрын
some is cut off (usually full of impurities) the rest stays in the die and is pushed through when the next billet comes

What would be the cost of such an extrusion? What about the price difference between the states and europe? Little do I know about that stuff but it looks amazing and I am highly curious. Have a nice day! :)

Much cheaper than milling it.
