There are very few truly original music artists-that is to say artists that pioneer a completely new sound. Punk bands all copy the same few seminal artists like the Sex Pistols or the Ramones and catch no flak for it. With indie artists its the Smiths or the Pixies or a handful of other groups, and I could go on with thrash, post-rock, etc. But only the truly terrible bands of a genre will copy and do nothing original whatsoever-its just that to outsiders of a particular genre, the bands that follow in the wake of the innovators tend to get assimalted, whether they deserve it or not, because these outsiders don't understand the nuances of the genre they are listening to. The problem with doom metal is that almost everyone is an outsider to our music and they can trace all of it back to Black Sabbath, who came much earlier than any other doom act. So people hate on the lack of originality, when in truth, a good doom band is no less original than a good band of any other genre. So fuck you. Alunah doesn't even sound THAT much like Black Sabbath to begin with. And they fucking rock.

"Like", maybe... but only in the sense that Black Sabbath established the roots of a lot of modern metal. I love Black Sabbath, but this isn't a cheap imitation of them, it's something descended from it, something new in an established tradition. Not only is the sound not the same (Stoner Doom often follows conventions that Sabbath never really engaged in), but a lot of the lyrical content is fairly different. Personally, I love this album so far (at about 35:00 into it) and plan to check out more of their stuff. The vocalist really catches my imagination with the lyrics, and the retelling of Greek myth in the title first track caught my attention too. If you don't dig it, no big deal, but I can't respect your complaint because it's invalid.
