It's fully in Breton (a regional & celtic language from Brittany in the west of France) English lyrics : Sparkle Let's go! In the darkness of the woods germinates the night The starts appear in the restless rustle A feminine shadow twirls in the light of a torch By making wild beasts I dance I steal the fire from their gaze full of desire And turn it in a song to sing in unison She dances with the devil, so what? I dance with the devil, so what? Blaze and mud, blaze, party, and mud The forest vibrates in contact with the dancing spark Its enchanting magic rises until the tall trees By making wild beasts I dance I steal the fire from their gaze full of desire And turn it in a song to sing in unison Fearless in the middle of the clearing dance the spark Twirl and twirl around it unchained souls (x2) Lalalalalalaleno lalelalo Lalalalalalaleno lalelalo Lalalalalalaleno lalelalo Lalalalalalaleno lalelalo I dance with the devil, so what? WIth the devil I dance She dances with the devil, so what?24 Lalalalalalaleno lalelalo Lalalalalalaleno lalelalo Lalalalalalaleno lalelalo Lalalalalalaleno lalelalo Fearless in the middle of the clearing dances the spark

I am not from Brittany(west of France) but from the center of France and I can tell you that as a "francophone", you understand absolutely nothing, there are completely two different languages. I had to check the lyrics on the internet! But I love so much the song. I'm proud of my country because they sometimes give the chance to regional languages/cultures (like "Sognu" in 2011 or "Ola Olé" in 2010) and for me it always gives something good and original! :)

Agree but "Allez ola olé" was in French though. ;-) By the way, France already sent a song in Breton in 1996 ("Diwanit bugale"), in Martinique Creole in 1992 ("Monté la riviè"), and there also was some Corsican in "Mama Corsica" in 1993.

@@losomaroavecunl6480 Yeah that's why I wrote also "cultures" but maybe I 've made a mistake cause I thought Jessy Matador 's song had Antillean Creole influence but apparently not !? Didn't know about the ones you mentioned but I'm going to watch them!

It's an ancient language of celtic origin, still spoken in Britanny, in the far west of France. This feminist song refers to the Breton legend of Katell Gollet, a young girl her father wanted to marry. But she wanted to stay free and have fun. With the help of her lover, she fled from the tower who she was imprisoned, and they were to dance in a party organized in a clearence. They danced so much that her lover most consciousness. Then another young man invited her to dance. It was the Devil, who bewitched her, and forced her to dance all night, to make her die of exhaustion. She preferred to die free than to be a prisoner

So proud to hear "breton" because France is not only Paris and many of us try to save our own langage which is not be recognized by French state. Breton is an ancestral and minority langage used in West of France only. Between 1900 ans 1980, it was forbidden to use "breton" in schools. Children were sometimes humiliated or beaten when they talk "breton". Met people resist in a few families. When I talk "breton", it reminds me of my grand-parents... Im so proud today to hear my langage. ""Ha marteze e tapimp ar maout e bro Italia" ( it's a breton expression to say perhaps we will win in Italy) Sorry, my English is not as good as my breton :) Thank you for your support! It's also a symbol!

I think its a bit like the alsacien dialect in the Alsace/Elsass region in far eastern france. The Alsace/Elsass was swapped around between Germany (former states) and France many times. Before the last swap to France it was for a long time a part of German speaking lands. So they spoke german but not "Standart or High German (Hochdeutsch), instead they spoke an Alsacien dialect of german which would be really hard to understand for a modern day "High German" speaking Person. I've been to Strasbourg before Covid started to train my french, but it wasnt good enough to speak fluently. In this bad situation i tried to speak to several people in German (because thats my mother tongue) and suprisingly a lot of them understood me (especially older ones) and thats because the old german kind language (Alsacien/Elsässisch) survived over two world wars, many years and many campaigns of the french government to forbid the german dialect. Today France and Germany are in a very good "realitionship". So it is no problem anymore to speak the German dialect in the Alsace, but nowadays the most youth people cant speak it anymore or are'nt engaged to learn it and that makes me a bit sad.

It was after the 1870 war against Germany. The government assessed that the war was lost because the soldiers didn't define themselves as French people (a lot didn't even speak French). This is when they decided to make French people out of the inhabitants of France and the first step was the language. They imposed the language we now know as the French language and made it the official language. Not only Breton was forbidden but all the other regional languages. You are evoking the fact that some people still speak the regional languages but have Breton words been integrated in French? To give an example, for me a 'serpillière' is a 'panosse' and 'passer la serpillière' is 'panosser'. Several words of my language are used instead of the French version on a daily basis.

He locked her in a tower, asking her to choose a husband among all these men. But she wanted to stay free. With the help of her last lover, she escaped from the tower and the two of them went dancing at a party held in a large clearing. They danced so much that her lover fainted. Out of spite, she swore she would marry any man who could dance longer than her. So a young man invited her to dance. It was the devil who had bewitched her and her lover. He forced her to dance the night away, but she refused to admit defeat and ended up dying of exhaustion. She had preferred to die free rather than be a prisoner.

Don't apologize my friend... Fulenn is not French but dialect from Brittany 😉 France took a risk by choosing them and I'm so happy with it because it's terrific, much energy, great sounds and melody, good staging already and voices OK (they'll have to work on some details). It was the best choice and I hope we're going to hear them often in France radios and on social médias as well We're going to torino with a song we can be proud of 😀❤️😘🇨🇵

I put the French and the English translation of the lyrics down below: French: C’est parti ! Literally, in my top 5, that uniquely ritualistic, gargoyle-like vibing and occultist Breton entry of ∖∣/Fr*æ6An*6Cæə*6∖∣ ∕ , alongside with Poland, Norway (because it's all funky, misplaced and just fun), Romania (because it's giving me genuinely summer/beach vibes and it's so catchy as well, especially chorus wise) 'n' UK. And, the runner-up to the top 5 or for now on 6th place till 10th place then that would either be Azerbaijan,Albania,Netherlands and Estonia. And, oh a lovely reaction as well, guys, that's for sure🙂 Greets from Denmark - And,yeah, a big no to putting my country's entry on top 5 this year, I can tell you that much.
