Just got one myself, be here tomorrow. I've wanted this exact model and guitar since I learned about them. They truly are a lot of guitar for the money. Can't wait to play mine!

Man I’m not an ambassador for Alvarez. But I’m not lying, you’re going to be so blown away by your guitar. It’s just fkn amazing. I’ll put it up against any $2500 guitar out there. Including Martin, Taylor or Gibson. Have fun.

I’ve got one. Great axe.

The bridge allows a steeper break angle for the strings, which actually helps the string pressure on the top. The steeper the angle that the string ‘breaks’ over the saddle or nut, the more downward pressure it applies to that saddle or nut. This helps the tone and volume. Alvarez came up with a nice design for this and uses in on the MIJ high end Yairi guitars. This also helps a LOT when using an under saddle transducer the relies on downward string pressure to work well.

Thank you so much for that info. I looked online but couldn’t figure out why they did that. That makes much more sense to me. Good stuff, and totally appreciated.

If you do upgrade the pickup the LR Baggs lyric is awesome with a very natural sound, not tinty like under bridge pickups.

Good review! Wish they make this in a cutaway model.

I had one. The LR Baggs pick up is terrible in it. Where the neck attaches to the body, the topwood was raised on both sides of the top few frets. Its made in China, you can tell. Real heavy finish. I sold it.

Great guitar. MD60 is Solid Mahogany. MD70 is solid Rosewood.

That is what he said.. only thing he said about rosewood was that the bridge is rosewood.

May I ask if there were any dead notes on your MD60BG when you bought it? I really am wanting to buy this guitar, but there are none that are being carried at any of my local guitar shops. Every single Alvarez that I have played that ARE offered in the stores here have dead notes. There is also a youtube short from a guy that shows his MD60BG with dead notes all over the fret board and he calls this guitar garbage out of the box. Thank you for posting this video...

I can’t remember exactly how it was out of the box, but I do remember being impressed. I always do a set up on any guitar I get. I adjust the truss rod, put a set of Elixer 12/56 strings and I’ll even shave to saddle if need be. I usually find dead notes on almost any guitar I buy initially. Of course every guitar is different, but mine is an absolute beast. Best of luck my friend! Happy playing.

@@coaltrain Thank you for replying, Coaltrain! You and I have different buying experiences, then. But, then again, i have never, in 50 years of playing guitar, bought an acoustic guitar sight unseen. Dead notes on an acoustic can not always be guaranteed a fix with a simple set up. Some times it could cost more than it's worth to get things right, or could have just bought that more expensive guitar that one didn't think they could have afforded in the first place :)

Take that pickup out, and get a nice instrument mic.
