100% agree with you on these woods. id like to see a side by side tap comparison between woods. They both sound rich and warm to me. Thats probably why i love listening to cedar or Walnut guitars.

I love these "technical" (if I can call them that) videos you guys put out. I was really surprised in the difference between Sapele and Mahogany.

I've been obsessed with walnut ever since I heard a classical player on an all walnut guitar, simply amazing. Thank you for this, it gets one thinking about the carving of that top for tone.

Cool demo, guys. 👍🏼 Khaya mahogany has actually been used for a long time, but was really only found in “higher end” guitars by the “boutique” builders - until now. I have a Maestro OO-MH-AWH (bench-made in Singapore), and it has all solid khaya mahogany back and sides. It is super responsive, and sounds like a bigger instrument than it is. A lot of folks are sleeping on khaya mahogany, but it’s a killer tonewood to use. It’s definitely very underrated. It’s cool to see Alvarez using it! I own the Alvarez Masterworks Elite solid black walnut OM with cutaway, and I love it. I also have the Yairi FYM66HD...which is just so great! I will have to do a video on my channel of both these Alvarez instruments soon. Peace. 🐰💙🇺🇸🎸🎶🤝✌️

I enjoy the "nerdiness" of these videos where you guys dig into the tonal qualities of the various woods. I'm a wood nerd too, so it is nice to see others that share that interest. It is also nice that Alverez has Chris, (who seems to have a passion for wood), in a position to help make those decisions as to what woods will be used on their guitars. I'm glad he is one of "us" and not a "bean counter". I was wondering if Alverez has entertianed the idea of using Koa or Tasmanian Blackwood on any of their guitars. I have a Taylor Ltd with Tasmanian Blackwood back and sides with a Sitka top, and it is a sweet sounding instrument. I also have a 1990 Yairi DY-77, (Rosewood/Sitka), that I bought new 32 years ago, and you will have to pry it from my cold dead hands. Keep making thes videos...they are entertaining and informative.

Hey there. I’ve got an Alverez all koa guitar Yairi built in 1980 as a limited edition anniversary model. And it does indeed have a very unique tone to it. Besides being absolutely gorgeous to look at.

Chris, That plume of sound your hearing, i would describe it as an expansion of sound coming out of the woods. Some of the woods the expansion sound just fell away while others they rang out longer, especially the harder woods.

Great idea to make such an interesting comparison. Thanks a lot for this very informative video. We all see that we need more different guitars in our collection. 😉👍

Very enjoyable guys! Being equally as obsessed with tonewoods as you all and some of the other commenters, my only concern - especially after listening to Mr Bourgeois do these tapping experiments for hours - is how well this may or may NOT translate to what the woods actually sound like once cut, braced and placed on the guitars. Makes you contemplate more….

Cedar impresses😉😎👍

Interesting tests. Have you ever tried hanging the wood with something instead of holding it with your fingers which may dampen the tone?
