I saw the premier of this splendid piece in New York City in 1960, and two weeks ago finally saw it again in Hancher Auditorium at the University of Iowa, where it received a standing ovation and gave us a repetition of Rocka my soul. It was about the last major performance on the campus before everything shut down for the Coronavirus, and the thrill still lingers.

I have seen Alvin Ailey many times, but my first time in 1970 as a high school student. It has been quite a while since I last saw them. Always magical!!! I took high school students to see them during my career and now these students are in their 50's, still enjoying the Ailey dancers.

I remember a performance of this in Cleveland in the 1980s. At the end the audience not only gave them at least 4 or 5 curtain calls, we demanded three encoures. A magical performance !!!

The music, the dancing, singing was so awesome! I’ll do anything to be this limber again! Fix Me Jesus! 🥰. Seeing the comments below, the younger generation has to watch this for online classes and they have no clue what they are looking at. Parents, please sit with the children and answer their questions on the Revelations of dancing. They need to look up Alvin Ailey and read about him. Then they will get the reason behind the music, dancing, singing of the Black Heritage! The music tells it all!
