Here's a little fact you forgot about it though. When the creator of the 50's Alvin and the Chipmunks died, his son took it over. The 80's version and the recent Nick version were both done by the same people. Two people do most of the voices. The son of the original creator does the voices of Dave, Alvin and Simon and his wife dose the voices Theodore, and the Chippets. I loved the Chipmunks when I was a kid and I love them now. Adored the hot air balloon movie. The show is cute and it is something that I can watch with my daughter. The movies on the other hand seems to be lacking in something that the shows have. Funny enough, even though my daughter loves the Chipmunks and will watch all of the cartoons from 50's to today, she does not like the movies.

Still, you have to admit the films are garbage compared to the older stuff. The first film was average and the rest were total trash. Simply because it is changing, doesn't mean it is instantly quality level of any of the prior stuff. It has to work for it (can't speak for the new show, so this pointing finger is only for those horrendous films). You want a good/semi-decent chipmunk film? _Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet Frankenstien_, _Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet the Wolfman_, or _The Chipmunk Adventure_. There. Half-decent kid's films.

I was born in '96 and I grew up watching the 80s chipmunks. In 2007, we rented the CGI and I remember adoring it, so we watched both 80s and the 50s thanks to video stores :) I don't have a problem with the reboots at all, as long as kids can grow to love the characters as much as we did.

I personally feel like the new cartoon is a lot better than the movies. I like the slice of life concept more than the "Look at us we're superstars but we only do covers of trendy pop music". I like that the songs are original and the conflicts are real. I'm not from the 80's, but from what I've seen through the 90's and forward I think this is one of the better old school reboots.

For the most part, what you said is true. However, the Chipmunks franchise was actually kind of clever when it came to creating the characters of the Chipettes. It would have been really easy to make them exactly the same as the Chipmunks but they're more like variations on a theme. Alvin was full of himself but also the athlete among the boys, while Brittany was full of herself but would never go near sports for fear of breaking a nail or sweating. Simon was kind of a witty, well spoken intellectual while Jeanette was more of a shy, clumsy nerd girl. And while Theodore and Eleanor both like to eat, Theodore's kind of naive while Eleanor's smarter and also the athletic tomboy of the Chipettes. And yes, I know way too much about a children's cartoon.

I'm a huge chipmunks fan and Andre hit the nail on the head. They've always kept up with the time for the kids of the next generation. I really enjoy the new show, it's written and voiced by the same people who worked on the 80s shows and movies. the creators son and his wife. the films aren't as good, I loved the first one but the rest weren't as enjoyable but nonetheless they're here and they're gonna stay for a long time.

Came here curious about the chipmunks, came out wanting that Darkwing Duck statue. Now THAT GUY was my childhood hero! (And its hilarious in retrospective! XD)

Actually, Alvin and the Chipmunks played for sometime during the 90s though the only thing new about them were their movies. The show wasn't really my childhood, but I do remember watching it from time to time. The new one is alright, but nothing horrible. Alvin is the only annoying part, but as Black Nerd says it's not that much different from the old show.

I am an 80s kid. I watched the 1980s Chipmunks show, and the films (the mother's day special, and the feature film) as well as the chipmunks at the movies (their version of robocop, back to the future, etc) and chipmunks meet the monsters (frankenstein, etc) -- and I've seen the new CGI series. It truly is the exact same show, with just updated technology, both to tell the story, as well as in the story itself (gone is 1950s Alvin's hula hoop, and 1980s Alvin's radio controlled toys, and we see current Alvin playing with a Wii) - plus, they have the same voice actors from the 1980s show reprise their role- Ross Jr takes on the male voices while his wife deals with the female voices. I give it an A++++++++++++ (yes, that's A Christmas Story reference}

+landcommander1981 My niece and nephew were watching the TV show today, and I thought it strange how the characters all sounded EXACTLY they way they did in the 80s show (when I heard Dave say "ALLLLVIN" I was like "Can't be..."). A little Google-ing and I discovered the same thing you said, that the show is using same voice actors from then.

No Alvin and the Chipmunks as far as a cartoon series was from the 60's The Alvin Show, in my opinion it was superior to the 80's or any other incarnation, not only because the old school songs are better, but two words Clyde Crashcup. Enough said.

Chipmunks' new reboot is really pretty good. Parts of it even makes you feel like the 80s-90s version is the prequel to this. They even still have the same voices from back then. Come one guys that is some dedication. Also I was born in '92 and LOVED the chipmunks during there maybe 2nd reboot? It was in the late 90s they started to release everything to VHS and made some new movies. Side note remember the episode where the 50s/80s chipmunks and 90s chipmunks and a battle of the bands. Now that was plain funny.
