@@O_Towne_Bear I'd argue that he has been very interesting without them. They were great together but their collaboration had run its course. And personally, I'd rather have records like Rei Momo, Look Into The Eyeball or Everything That Happens Will Happen Today, than a hypothetical new Talking Heads album. I count David Byrne among the few pop/rock artists (like say Robert Plant or Peter Gabriel) that left behind a famous group and have managed to keep evolving and making interesting music instead resting on their laurels.

Been waiting for this one for a while. This was written about a girl who used to cut class and lay in the grass at a power plant and trip. Even though it's about a trippy experience, it's one of their more straight forward songs lyrically.
@joeyjoejoejunior3859
@joeyjoejoejunior3859 Жыл бұрын
Interesting, I never knew that. I seem to recall there was a theory that the song was sung from the perspective of a murder victim. If you look at it that way, the lyrics also make sense. Not suggesting that this is the "correct" interpretation; a quick Google search indicates you're correct.

Me too. Definitely my favourite Talking Heads song (although "Road to Nowhere" comes a close second). This is part of my personal favourite songs mix. Cutting grass under the influence of a psychedelic drug strikes me as a probable recipe for disaster but obviously it worked for her! I love this as a catchy road trip sort of song. Works for me 😁

From the website SongFacts - "According to David Byrne, who is the only writer credited on the track, this was written about a girl he knew who used to take LSD in a field next to the Yoo-Hoo drink factory in Baltimore. "Somehow that image seemed fitting, the junk food factory and this young girl tripping her brains out gazing at the sky," he told Q magazine in 1992. "But it wasn't a drugs song at all and I don't think people took it that way. I think it gives the impression of a spiritual or emotional experience, instantaneous and unprovoked. The sublime can come out of the ridiculous."

From the Little Creatures album in 1985, David Byrne said the song was about a girl he used to know in Baltimore, who took LSD, and would lie in the grass outside the YooHoo Drink Factory. He said she would lie there staring at the clouds oblivious to the rest of the world. This song made it to Number 54 on the BillBoard Hot 100 and was never performed live. With the wonderful pulsing of the drums, great guitars and vocals, it was a great tune. Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️ ❤️ 🇨🇦🇨🇦

This is my favorite Talking Heads songs. I dated one guy in college for over a year, and this was our song. I just set it to repeat and danced my way through washing that floor every week.

You want an "Aha! moment? David Byrne is as they say, "on the spectrum." His music artistry and videos reflect that quite clearly. I was struck by all the comments, during the video and written by viewers about the song, the music, being "weird", "different", "quirky", and have to believe that many to most commenters didn't know that about Byrne. I love that Byrne became successful with his creativity as much as I have loved the music itself.

Talking Heads were definitely one of the more original bands to come from the mid 70's New York punk/ new wave explosion (that also spawned Blondie and The Ramones).This album ("Little Creatures") was a high point from 1985- this song, "Road To Nowhere", "Stay Up Late"- just hit after hit of modern pop goodness, after a 3-year hiatus of the members working on other projects (David Byrne with his solo work and multiple collaborations, and Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz's work w/ Tom Tom Club).

The members of the band all attended art school which is where they got their eccentric approach to making music.

Talking Heads have a lot of great ones, but I'd like to put in a vote for "Uh Oh, Love Comes To Town," which has a very infectious bass line by the awesome Tina Weymouth.

Love some Talking Heads! Right You Guys.... Always Qwirky & Fun!!! Great choice Guys...PS- Amber... I always took that TH song as being a Businessman kind of fed up with his life, feeling like he's backed into a corner, and wondering 'How Did I Get Here?'. 'Same as it Ever Was' ie, every day seems to just pass him by. PS- I see comments re: TH version of 'Take Me To The River', which I SECOND (third, fourth or whatever). :)

I know it's been mentioned previously. I highly, highly recommend you guys watch the concert film, "Stop Making Sense" perhaps as a reaction. I guarantee you will love it!!! They had such an unbelievable approach to the start of that concert I had never seen or heard of any one else doing it besides them. It is just amazing and David Byrne is such a genius.

There were two great rock movies the first one was " The Last Waltz" by the band. The second was by the Talking Heads " Stop Making Sense".

Stop Making Sense album (original press) still speaks to me all the way through, made me follow the oddness of the man's solo work and other collaborations, his head talks...💥💫❣️👍

The Heads are always interesting...hey, they did a great cover of _Take Me To The River_ too! Y'all oughta give that a listen sometime. Come to think, their award-winning concert film _Stop Making Sense_ would be a great movie watch on your other channel.

Great song and melody and think one of his best! I think I’ve requested this song at least a dozen times, now here we go, the girl on an acid trip!

Even though my now wife and I weren't huge fans of "art rock" or however you want to categorize them, Talking Heads tapes were on continuous rotation on my car stereo back in high school and college (late 70s-mid 80s)...and we still love them!

You may not have known this, but the members of Talking Heads all met in art school, which explains their different approach to songwriting and video making.

On Halloween one year, I met a girl in a cover band called "The Talking Freds" and remember her as the Foxy Bass Player. They were all Freds. She was Freddy Krueger. There was a Mr. Rogers, a Flintstone and a Mercury.

You have to watch Stop Making Sense to really appreciate the brilliance of Taking Heads. Re his voice... on a later solo album, he sings an operatic duet with Rufus Wainwright, which is stunningly Beautiful. It's from an opera called The Pearl Fishers I think, needs to be listened to!! Just checked...album is Grown Backwards and song is...Au Fond du Temple Saint.
